I like...a 'dead' ball...why do you ask?
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:43:27 AM »
Have a E..No Limit..has been extremely skid snap...over/under reaction...can see why EBO canned this ball.

That said...after 50 games or so and no cleaning...it 'DIED'

Now...I LOVE the damn thing...can square up on tough tourney shot...and eat it alive...anything 40 ft and under...ball carries everything...gives me both push & hold now...just change speeds and it's good to go!

Anybody else had better luck w/a ball that toned down and quit reacting like it was supposed...yet you MADE lemonade outta of a lemon?

My first Absolute Inferno. I could hardly control the thing when it was new. After 300+ games it was and still is one of my favorite balls.

Power Diesel I've had for four years. Smooths out any over/under and still hits more than enough. My highest series is with this "dead" ball, love it.

Had a Big One that lost alot of it's zeal at the 150 game mark. Polished it up and it was pretty good on dryer lane conditions. I always say, bowling balls never die, they just move to a different spot in the rotation!

Visionary Blue Sparkle Gryphon. When I first got it, it would do tricks down the lane but was almost uncontrollable. When my original X-Factor finally died after around 1,500 games or so, I used the Gryphon out of necessity. After a couple of months -- I guess when I finally knocked all the shine off it -- it became a strong, controllable medium piece.

Columbia Chaos. Hated it sat it down for a year and a half. Came back to it and have used it ever since. Its the only 16lb i have used in years because it gives me a look no other ever had. Have tried to replace it a dozen times but nothing close matches it. Both fingers have cracks around them and still going. Missed a NIB 15lber a few months ago by two minutes. That was a bad day.
Can't count games on it too high.

I used to have problems on the third or fourth game of a set when lanes have dried up so I decided to try a Columbia Icon-2 which I had put aside three years ago because it had lost its hook. That ball is doing wonders for me and now I score as well or better when lanes dry up.

This is why BOTH Brunswick and Ebonite both recommend to NOT REvive a ball that us working on a shot that is highly reactive(often unblended synthetics) nor buy a new ball.

I saw a great example of this a few years ago.

An acquaintance bowled an 836 in a summer league with an old nearly dead Tour Boss pearl from Columbia.  His father as a reward purchased him a nice new Triple X from Storm.  For a few weeks he couldn't bowl over 500.

Back to the old dead smooth Tour boss Pearl and he could barely throw under 220 for a game.

REgards,

PS my good "Old" ball is a Reaction Rev with Ebonite particle polish on it(that stuff really cuts down the reaction on most balls...) This ball reacts sooooo smooth on over under shots......I love it!
