Nationals - Any 5 balls

Excluding spare ball to complete a 6 ball arsenal, what 5, any 5 available or will be soon would you choose for nationals?

Cost isn't an issue, say someone said I'll fund your arsenal or whatever.

Black Hammer is definitely going. If these are my options at the time I pack up for Nationals, which 5 would be recommended to round out 6 ball arsenal?

Here's a tip for all the BR urethane lovers.  Urethane hasn't been in play at Nationals in almost 25 years.  So unless it is your spare ball leave it at home.

I'm not a urethane "lover" but you cant make a blanket statement that urethane hasnt been playable the last 25 years. I've seen multiple people cash the last 2 years throwing urethane. Could they have done better with reactive? Possibly, but they also could have done worse with it too

If you have any ability at all a "cash" at Nationals isn't a big achievement.  Half of the field has no chance before they start.

And typically the half that has no chance before they even step foot on a plane to fly out to nationals are the most concerned about urethane etc.

I agree it's not a good option for the majority of bowlers. I've personally gone away from urethane myself. I've made some physical changes to my game and urethane has become even more niche.

Urethane has its place for sure but not usually for scoring.  IMO Urethane is awesome for practicing with because it reinforces accuracy and doesn't absorb oil much at all so less wear and tear on your reactives.  I enjoy throwing urethane more honestly as well.  If you are very good and pretty much hit the pocket at will I can definitely see it reducing scoring but that is probably the minority of people on here whether they admit it or not (ie those mentioned above without a chance I suppose).  I find at least with my Crow I do labor to get much over 215 or so but I also rarely throw less than 180 either. Tend to score higher with my reactives but sometimes lower as well.  Of course the name of the game is stringing strikes at nationals or you are wasting your time for most part.  Spares just don't cut it and tend to be for most people more common with urethane.

The Bowlers Journal standings were dominated by bowlers using urethane this year.

I don't know every name on the top of the list, and I don't recall exactly who used urethane and who didn't (nor would I even have that information for many of them). But if you kept track of USBCs Facebook videos of high scores at the BJ, there was probably a video a week of a guy scoring with urethane.

The runaway winner was Craig Niddifer, a one handed righty. His 846 using urethane won by like 40.

It caught my attention enough to possibly bring a urethane next year (we go early, so I hadn't seen these videos before I went). I typically don't bother with urethane.

Thats not the open though. I used urethane at the BJ and finished top 50. Urethane around 3-5 if you are RH was certainly the look. In the open, not a chance.

Fair enough, but unless you live close enough to swap out balls in between tournaments, it's semantics.

For me, picking 6 balls for nationals means picking 6 balls for the open, BJ, BTM, and 40 Frame Game. I've never brought urethane before because we go early before a lot of the information comes out. But if I'd known urethane was the play in the BJ, i would've had one with me. (I ended up top 100 anyway, with an IQ Tour.)

Could always use urethane as your spare ball as someone said.  With my Ogre though that ball goes so straight basically almost more a plastic ball for most conditions with my lack of hand.
