Title: Need advice on oil pattern
Post by: APheLion on October 22, 2014, 05:22:31 PM
Hi guys,

Im planning to bowl on a tournament on this pattern, anyone know the tendencies? any suggestion or advice on how it breaks down?

Thanks

Hard.  40 feet with 5 2 to 2 units is usually pretty difficult.

Take some equipment with surface, and some with less surface. Start off where you normally like to play and start moving based off of what you are seeing with your ball and others around you.

I have learned the hard way these graphs do not mean $hit. It is what you actually see on the lanes when bowling that will tell you everything. You bowl on lanes not paper.

looks like a pretty straightforward medium pattern. BP around 4-5-6 with a benchmark type ball with surface. start as straight as possible. transition will depend on everybody else in the field. if they know how to properly break a lane down. if they do, it should be and easy chase left with proper ball progression. not taking into account lane topography

5 loads 2 to 2 is pretty typical for sport patterns.  Most important things to look at are buff length ( 40 ft ), overall volume and reverse oil.  How the shot transitions is going to be more a function of how guys play it.  If you are good squared up, starting around 8 board is always a good place in practice.  Back ends will probably start pretty good, then tighten down a bit before opening up.

Well, i had a chance to bowl 6 games on it today, gotta tell u, this center carries pretty good, but getting to the pocket was difficult for a lot of people, good thing wasnt for me. I had to play with a pin down the middle finger (i track pretty high) with some surface that gave me the best look. If i get to 8, it was GONE! for my surprise, all aggressive balls did not good, too jumpy. The worst part is, for this tournament, im only allowed 6 balls including spare ball, not that i have many options, but so far... only one ball did OK.

Best case for me is if only one ball works.  Too often when I don't match up, nothing works, and when I do match up everything works enough that I am tempted to switch balls every time I lose a couple of hits.
