need ball advice

I am relatively new to the sport of bowling. Lately I go about two times a week and since the beginning of June when i started going often I have raised my average to around 150 with the house balls.  So I would like to buy a new ball to help my game. Most of the lane conditions I see are around medium so i was wondering if you guys have any suggestions. By the way, i was looking at the x factor reloaded and the extreme impact but i am open to any other options. thanks

Well I wouldn't suggest diving into the high price market too quickly.  I would rather you look into the high entry level or mid-price equipment.  Bowling balls like the following work great for the price:

Hammer:  Blade (solid / pearl)
Ebonite:  Tornado (pearl / TPS) or the V2 Blue/Black
Storm:  Hot Rod / Hot Wire, Too Hot and Ultra Hot (the last two have been discontinued but are still available...soom great deals on Ebay on them too)
Columbia:  Wicked

These are just a few of my favorites.  Basically I would look into a solid ball or a pearl that has the polish knocked off.  I don't like putting a realative new bowler into a polished pearlized ball since it usually won't give the most consistent reaction...what we call under over.  A solid ball blends out the oil patterns for you.

These are just a few option...there are a lot more out there.

Well im not new to using the high end balls because some of my friends own them and i have been using those the last 5 times i've gone bowling and have done much better with them.  Also i forgot to mention it earlier but i am right handed and start from the second arrow on the left and i dont throw too hard...mostly accuracy with some speed. thanks

Don't let price fool you. The Hammer Blade series is awesome. the extra 70 bucks for a quote "high end" ball is not worth it.

learn your game and then decide if the latest hook in the box, pin destroying, 20 pins over average,carry ten automatically, must have in your bag, honor scoring only ball, is right for you.

Unless you have too much money and belive a $300 ball will make you a superstar,I say, save some money for coaching by getting quality equipment at a lower cost. That is what will raise your scores.

Just my .02, but the Brunswick Monster series seems to be a really good starting point for a lot of people I know. I love my SmashR, and even though I've recently moved to the Inferno, the SmashR still makes its way out of the bag on many occasions. Talk to the folks at the local pro shop and they'll help you pick something that would be a good first bowling ball and will match the lane conditions you see most often. Also, you might want to consider jumping right into a fingertip or relaxed fingertip drilling as opposed to a conventional one. Initially it might feel a bit awkward, but in the long run you'll want to be there anyway. Good luck!

"Also i forgot to mention it earlier but i am right handed and start from the second arrow on the left"   <---  Are you sure about that?  That would mean that you throw the ball over 6th arrow?  If this is the case you need to really learn how to bowl a bit more...covering the lane, while fun to watch, is not the way to help you score in the long run.  If you really meant 2nd arrow  (the second arrow to the left of the right gutter)...than sorry!

Can you please explain how / where you throw the ball.  Do you use a thumb when holding onto the ball or are you bowling "2 finger"?

i used to use two fingers because i was taught wrong...but now i use my friends high end ball with a thumb and hes teaching with my form and it seems to be helping a lot.  so you guys dont think the reloaded or extreme impact would work for me?

I am sure those prices you were quoted were without drilling - possibly without shipping.
I am a higher average woman bowler and here's WHY I buy mainly mid priced equipment -
IT WORKS BETTER FOR ME!!!
The high end stuff is VERY condition specific. The mid range stuff covers a bigger range of conditions, and does it very well.

I shot my 807 in January with a Smash/R. Just bought a Frenzy (from kimbo), and can't wait to try a Bruiser. (all brunswick). Love my Too Hot (storm), love my Deuce - for the right condition - HATE my X Factor. All my other high end stuff is really old...

I make serious money with this equipment, so - if the higher end stuff truly worked better, I'd own it.

are probably even bowlers. If they are, they have probably no knowledge
of bowling balls and certainly have never tried different ball companies.

Now, go right out and buy the most expensive hook monster on the
market. Spend at least 3 or 4 hundred dollars. You can then tell your
friends you have the biggest hooking, most expensive ball in the rack.
