Eh, anyone else see Brunswick's new DOT stuff? Looks like no pins and a pre marked drilling area to decrease balls cracking. will the drill sheet be called, "Drilling for Dummies?"

Drill whatever angle you want without hitting the pin or getting close enough to void the warranty.  Sounds like this technology is long overdue.  And the 4 year warranty is also impressive.

If the Vintage Vapor Zone is like the original I'm pumped!  I might buy an extra to have forever.   Definitely one of the best balls I've ever used.

I'm not knocking it. In Mo's hour long video in another thread, he mentions that us drillers have to become smarter with layouts and such since we only get once chance to give the bowler their desired reaction. This is because we can no longer just slap a hole in the ball to enhance ball reaction. So what does Brunswick do? Try to make it easier to drill balls for the customer.

tkkshop,

I think both points are valid.  The pro shop, since x-holes will be gone in 2020, will need to be mindful of how their customer really rolls the ball, and if that customer needs or want different drill angles there are no limitations due to warranty concerns.

its simply a manufacturing change to move the physical pin to the bottom of the ball and replace it with an engraving on the top side. The engraving will now act as the "pin" when it comes to laying the ball out. This doesn't have anything to do with simplifying or complicating layout technology. I would even argue it actually allows a PSO to be more precise to the desired layout numbers since they can now place the engraved mark nearer to the drilled holes, and even drill partially through it if that's where it falls.

Bowler001,

Not sure how I came across, but I wasnt in need of an explanation. It's a gimmick to "make things easier." It will not affect me or my shop. Hope it helps those who still use B. I'd be interested to see how long it takes Radical to try this.

I guess I'm just not sure why changing a manufacturing process to make a ball more durable would relate to what Mo said or make what Mo said any less applicable. Maybe I'm confused, but how is the process and methods to layout a ball affected by this?

As for Radical joining in, looks like at least one new DV8 ball is seeing Dynamicore with these releases, so maybe expo releases next year, DOT will start hitting the other brands.

I do see there being some confusion by PSOs that don't stay super current, and accidentally drilling balls upside down, so I imagine they will color the pin to match the ball better so its less noticeable on the bottom. Im interested to see the DOT in pictures/person and see just how clear it is that its the new "pin".

I’m just surprised they called it DOT technology, given that C300 made those “DOT” balls for years.

White Dot, Blue Dot, Yellow Dot, Red Dot, .............

So many other things they could’ve called it, yet they chose DOT technology.

Durability Optimization Technology.    Gotta love it.

Now for the fun part: Give you one guess where the pin actually is located on my Blue Dot.

Definitely interested in the poison

Honey badger cough cough...
Already have one... Would there be overlap then?

Oh idk...

I just saw...

Where they're the same-"To me"
-Both fall on the yellow primary color scale
-Both have all cover and core, no filler
-Tall slim core shape
-2.56 vs 2.57 rg
-MB .008 vs .001

Where they're different
-.041 vs .054 diff
-4000 grit plus polish vs 500/1500 sanded
-Pearl cover vs ???? Solid cover???? ( Big b has stopped marketing solid, Pearl etc

To me...same ball

mildly asymmetric shiny pearl

vs

dull symmetric heavy oil ball

but gold and yellow are similar colors so they're just alike. LOL.

Ok, color change, and resin base change. Pearl in 90 days following up the first release! 😂😂

If you can't see it, you're daft. These companies copy cat each other to the max.

Never said anything about whether or not companies copycat eachother so not sure how that is relevant. The HB was not the first two piece ball. LOL. Its nearly impossible to have unique ideas in this industry anymore. We all know that.

The point is, you're claiming the balls are "same ball"...and they're not. If a PSO recommended those two as comparable, most in this forum would find that laughable. You probably would too.

We all know surface is most determining factor of ball motion...ok...so one is 1500 dull, the other is polished. Then coverstock absorption is also one of the most contributing factors so heres a solid heavy oil cover versus a medium/dry pearl cover (based on manufacturers recommended conditions). Then they would say well differential is next most contributing factor...and again, not similar at .041 vs .054.

But things that don't have a large impact on reaction, like color (which im not sure why you think gold and neon yellow are comparable?) and 2 piece construction are similar. So that makes the WHOLE concept of the ball the same? If that's the case, almost every ball on the market is as you said "same ball" because you can find similarities in every single ball out there.

Ok I take it all back, you are so right Mr sir.

This is not a HB rip off, based on your information provided you have to be the whizziest guy ever. Thanks for all the info.

P.s. Can't wait for the position Pearl in 90 days after release!

The 14lb DV8 Poison vs 14lb HB is not even close with the diff.! I guess it's whether you like one company over the other! Just my $.02, Bruce
