Title: New product, thumbhole tape from Vise
Post by: milorafferty on January 20, 2017, 01:51:51 PM
I'm really digging the new tape from Vise. 8 different release profiles without all the sticky residue that some of the white tapes seem to leak though to your thumb.

I doubt I will ever use the Silver or Orange but the Red, Blue and Yellow are awesome!

And no, I do not work for Vise or represent them in any way, no matter what the grippy glove tools claim.  ;D

I tried the blue one. Wasn't really fond of it for 2 reasons.
One, it was much thicker than all the other tapes I tried. If you're thumb was just a little loose, requiring too much pressure to hold onto the ball, one piece of other brands made the hole fit right. One piece of the blue and I couldn't get my thumb in the hole.
Two, you can't adjust it because there is so little glue on the back. Once you take it out, it never sticks to anything again.

I've used Master white thumb tape for 20 years now and never had one problem with it. Have tried Brunswick and Storm and they are not better, but equally good. None of them have had the glue "leak" through to the surface.

I didn't notice them being any thicker than the ones I used previously. I've been using them for about two months or a bit less and love the ability to adjust up or down in release speed.

Your mileage may vary...

Once you start using something like this, you do get used to them. I varied between my Masters and Storm tape and these blue Vise ones; so I may notice the difference more easily. I still have some and save them for the initial piece, since I use 2 - 5 pieces of tape in my thumb hole, depending on what my thumb feels like being that day/evening.

Since I am more on the negative side for these, I should add something positive. I do, really, like the feel of the surface of this blue tape; It allows the thumb's surface to hold easily but it releases even more easily, without ever being slippery. That is a major PLUS.

BTW how do the various colors differ from one another, besides the color, of course?
I have only tried the blue.

It's the same idea as their hada patch. The light silver is the quickest release to the Orange being the slowest.

With eight of them, I have to keep a cheat sheet in my bag.

Here is what I have from least friction to most.
Silver
Ice Blue
White (Which seems to be just regular Vise tape to me)
Red
Blue
Yellow
Purple
Orange

I use mostly Red and Yellow depending on the day. The Silver is way too slippery for me and the Orange hangs on like Gorilla Glue.

Yep, that's them.
Which is kind of a bummer since I have been getting them free for several weeks. Now that it's actually a retail product, I will have to pay for them. LOL

Oh, I forgot to tell you earlier. If you want the LMB Extreme cleaner, I can give you a contact where you can get it. It's still being made in Stockton.

Thanks, but I bought the last 3 quarts that Buddies had. I'm good for along time, but I appreciate the offer.
That's odd; Buddies told me the LMB INternational was no longer making the product. Yes, please send me a message with the contact. I do want it; a friend asked me to get him another quart.

I am really digging this new textured tape
My personal opinion only mind you
http://www.bowlingball.com/products/accessories/powerhouse/13013/premium-tape-100-piece-roll.html

easy to re-position if need be
texture makes realxing my hand easier
just the right amount of grip, less urge for me to squeeze and in the past
I seem to be futzing with my thumb(s) less since I started using this a few months ago

I have used their tape quite a bit in the past, it's a good product.

I'm surprised that you would be using/promoting an Ebonite product though...  :o

This tape looks like something I should try. However I was looking for just one color rather than a sample pack and I cannot seem to find these tapes sold in a package by one color rather than a sample pack.

Can anybody help me with it .

Purchased with my own $$
no freebies
If I found something else that was better, I would give it the same opinion

My proshop guy is selling the new Vise tapes on the cheap as an introductory promotion, so I bought a package each of the Silver (least friction) and Orange (most friction) just to experiment with the extremes.

I liked the Silver on the back of the thumb hole because it's not too abrasive. It's a nice compromise between black and regular white. The Orange just felt strange. It almost has a sticky feel to it. I got out OK, but removed it after a few shots. It almost seemed gimmicky.

If you were really an undercover Vise employee, I would have hit you up for freebees a long time ago.  ;D

I'm in the market for thumb (hole) tape and I had planned on going back to masters white tape again. Which of the new vise tape is similar or has a bit more grip than the white masters tape?

From my personal experience, the blue. Or yellow is just a bit more than blue.

I'll have to wait till they sell them separately and give the yellow a try.

I don't understand why they felt the need for EIGHT different textured tapes, but whatever - it's their company.
That being said, I am currently trying the purple tape (second strongest) and I like it so far. I like it even better than the Real Bowlers Tape silver, which I find gets dirty really quickly and tends to roll down a bit, necessitating replacement pieces all the time.
Now that I use IT thumbs I don't change my thumb tape as quickly so I expect this to last a while.

How does this compare to the TA tapes?

Does the silver have a little bit of texture atleast? I don't want it to make it slicker than not using any tape. My problem with the regular white tape from say Storm is that, my thumbhole is so close to being exact that one piece of Storm White and I stick. I'm curious to try a single piece of this silver and see how it does.

It does have a bit of texture, not slick like most black tape.

I bought a full 24 piece pack of each color from my pro shop over the weekend.

I will try this then because I just cannot make the white tape work.
