Title: New Released Balls, help pick two
Post by: chrisleftwich on July 28, 2008, 10:06:07 AM
So if you had to pick two balls out of the new releases from any of the company's, what would you pick and why?

I would take the Raw Hammer Psycho and the Razyr.

One I love Hammer.  I already have all 3 of the Widow series, so I don't feel I would need the Venom. (Although, it's very tempting!)

2nd, I don't run into very heavy conditions too often.  So for me being a left handed stroker type, these two should compliment each other very well on the conditions I see.

Probably the Dimension and Rapid Fire pearl. Drill them both pin down 5" ish from pap and a low weight hole. I think I could cover a lot of conditions especially in league with those two and have two balls that are different from each other in ways that they are complimentary of each other.

Break S75 handles oil and still has tremendous recovery, toss it wide on oil and watch it make the turn.

Swarm owns the house shot and some dryer patterns swing city, as they say swing it and bring it.

Trust me on these choices, best 2 balls too come out for there shots in awhile.

I would go with Cell and Tantrum.

I had alot of success with the Epic Quest being my first Roto ball and since I'm looking to replace it with another ball I believe the Cell is a good ball to have for something with an early roll and hard arc.

And one of the main reasons why I would get the Tantrum is because the colors looks so sweet! Besides the fact that I was impressed with the Temper I would need something abit longer and smoother off the breakpoint. Plus I bowl well with Track balls.

Buzzbomb and NVD? are you serious?
there would have to be HUGE drilling differences and surface changes.

as for me, i'd go with any of these.

-Break S75 and Swarm
-Dimension and Swarm
-Momentum Swing and Swarm
-Twisted Fury combo
-Gladiator combo
-Ogre Particle and Swarm

I love all these people picking these major oilers (Buzzbomb and Twisted Fury SOlid, as examples), but I don't understand it.

Do all you people see a freaking TON of oil or do you all have a TON of ball speed and few revs?

Sorry, I just don't get it.

I'd nominate the Twisted Fury Pearl or the Gladiator Pearl
AND
the Ogre SS or the Sure Strike.

I "think" Chris had a Twisted Fury Pearl in the past and didn't like it, but won't swear to it as I could be mistaken.

Six, I think that would be a good choice. I "almost" went for those 2 for myself and then backed off and went with the Rapid Fire Solid and then decide on a second ball to compliment. Still haven't decided yet on a second as even though I have bowled some high games and series with the Rapid Fire Solid, I am not entirely comfortable with it yet but still sort of like it so far. Looking at the Ebonite Playmaker next but haven't decided for sure yet.

You said before you had a V2 pearl and liked it right? Was it a pearl or something else? This cover is of course stronger than the V2 pearl, but I think you would be alright with it at the bowling centers around here.

Six, good memory as you are correct. I LOVED the V2 Pearl. It was drilled pin under RF and CG out just enough that it didn't need a weight hole per instructions by Brian Purcell. I changed the cover on it to 600 grit Scotchbrite and polished with 3M Finesse-It II and applied a real thin coat of Track Reaction Plus every 10-12 games and of coarse cleaned it at the lanes after every bowling session and it became the first ball out of my bag for a long time.

I really liked that V2 core and am thinking that if the Playmaker didn't do what I want out of the box, that I could make it do what I want with Valentino's Resurrection and Snake Oil of which I have had good success with on both my Heist and Rapid Fire Solid.

Sorry and I appoligize for the hi-jack here Chris.

freaking TON of oil

Hey Jeff, Chris lives in OKC metro like Brick and I do. As far as other people on this board, I can't answer for them. But in some of the centers in OKC, yeah, there is a lot of oil at some of them. Enough that I can take a mid-heavy to heavy oiler and use them at most centers here...and you know I have a heavy hand and speed as well.

That being said.....two balls to pick from and use here, Chris? The Street Rods would be usable at most every center here I think. Why, because both showed extreme veratility at the Open House at Heritage on the THS, the Viper and the Chameleon. If you want a higher end combo, get the Dimension and Rapid Fire Pearl.

That being said, most of these guys haven't seen Chris bowl.  He's on my team Wednesday nights, so I get to freely slap him around!  His arm swing goes left harder than his ball does soo.....  Go the Dimension and Rapid Fire Pearl idea.  Since you already have the Cell, which is the only ball to throw.

Back to work!!

Hey Johnny-Six-pack,

As I said, if you've got oil, thank God, get a couple of oilers and have fun.
I've got 2 basic finishes on my balls: polish and 4000 grit Abralon/White Cerium oxide Trizact pad.

Maybe I should move to Kansas I like windy days .... (Tornados? not that windy, however.)

Hey Mike, I am beginning to question my ability to recognize what is medium oil and heavier or heavy oil. I tell everyone I bowl on medium oil and never see heavier or heavy oil and in the meanwhile, I keep seeing you, Six and Chris post about the heavier oil here. Maybe my inability to recoginize heavier or heavy oil of today and call it medium oil is because of back when Richard Altman owned and ran Blvd. Bowl, the oil he put down WAS heavy oil without a doubt. The oil of today here when comparing how Altman oiled the lanes causes me to refer to it as medium oil.

Then again, I think maybe you guys play thru the oil out to the break point, whereas I play in the oil but along the outer edge of the oil line because of my inability to get the ball to turn back because of my low revs.

I do know that Donnie says Heritage puts down more oil than other centers and almost all of my bowling is done at Heritage anymore because of the equipment at Blvd Bowl constantly marking up and destroying balls has caused me not to go there anymore.

Once again Chris, I appoligize for hi-jacking your tread, but I think both Six and Mike have answered your question of what 2 balls to get because they both know bowling balls better than many people and both recommended the same thing.

I'm definitely going to pick the Smash Zone because I like the ball motion of Ultra Zone, but want it to below that ball.

I'm thinking about getting the Copperhead because I need something that is going to be controllable on the oil

Brickguy,

Compared to what I was used to seeing in the Houston area most all of my life, the centers in OKC are flooded.  Some of you have seen me bowl.  Now you tell me??  I could use my used original Fury, standing around 25 looking anywhere from 12 to 15 and end up right of there at the end of the night.  On wood at Blvd.  I will never be confused as being a flame thrower or having a weak release, but you do the math, that Fury was one of the most hooking balls I had ever owned.  There was some serious jizz in the middle of the lane there.  Heritage was only slightly flatter.  Yukon was about the same as Edmond.  I went to Holiday a few months back, and everybody telling me they scorch over there.  I ended up right of 25 with my feet, wishing I had more ball.  Think I threw my Special Agent all EIGHT games.  They got earl around this here place!

Amen to that Mike...I too kept telling myself that he wasn't going to listen to anyone which is usually his trait, and that he was going to buy what Anne Marie told him to buy. And then he will keep them what????....2 weeks at the most maybe and then sell them and go buy 2 more balls.

When you and Six slap him up along the side of the head, give him a couple extras next time.

Chris,

Wow...now that is alot of options...

I really like the Roto Grip Pluto and that will handle the Heavy to Med-Heavy....smooth and consistent and easy to make surface changes and reacts well to release changes...

As for the 2nd ball...would have to go with a pearl...but not too strong of one so you can combat some toasty conditions...

Storm Street Rod Pearl
Storm Rapid Fire Pearl
Roto Grip Illusion
Brunswick Avalanche Pearl
Columbia Wrath Dead Flush....

I have Illusion...and love it...

Have seen the others used and really like all of them when the shot opens up a bit...

Hopoe this helps!

Oh dang!!! You already purchased!!!...All my great advice for naught!!..lol

I was going to order the Dimension, but after talking to Anne Marie, was told that the Cell and the Dimension are really close to each other, which would be a waste of money as I already have the Cell.

Mike,

You ready to knock em down.  Wed should be a little better for certain reasons.
