New Site for Bowling Tips
« on: December 02, 2009, 06:54:25 AM »
We are thinking about getting a new site started which would strictly be about bowling tips and helpful coaching instructions. (We would still keep Ballreviews going too.)  We are doing some research to try and find the best information to post on this site.  Just wanted to see if you have any ideas or things you would like to see in a site like that.  This would not be a forum site like Ballreviews.  However, we would be willing to have a system where you can log in and possibly have a place to post your own tips or information.  Again, this is still in early stages and right now we are just getting some ideas of what people would like to see for a Bowling tips website.

Thanks

great idea, i think having sections for experience levels would be helpful as well. I would like to see a site where you can access important information like fitting techniques or drilling techniques mainly one stop place to search through informational material that is more factual than opinionated.

I would like to see you get the vendors involved and ask them to have either their staff members or even their bowling ball creators give tips based upon the actual bowling ball.

Also, I would like to see more tips on the PBA patterns.

It would need some tight regulation to be successful.

I think what we are all going to want is a one-stop site to see information and tips that we all agree are valid and work for todays game.

for instance right now i jump between morichbowling (for dual angle layouts... etc) , bowlingknowledge.info, btm magazine, bowlspot, google, and ballreviews. thats a lot of jumping around and even possibly asking a question on BR that has already been asked before. and im sure theres even more sites you could add to the list. all in the search of tips and techniques.

id like to see pages for techniques that show pictures (when possible)
good explanations on UNDERSTANDING drilling techniques instead of just a link to say morich''''s page which can take quite a while to grip (i know it did for me)

another words. a one stop shop that actually has valuable information instead of a site that ''''looks'''' like it does, but falls short. "do it right or dont do it at all" -)

Maybe have a section involving proshop tips and techniques with answers from other proshop owners.  We are thinking about a Rating System so if you post a video or send in a tip, then people will understand the qualifications of the other users.

We can try to work with vendors on getting some videos and articles. However, this is more of bowling tips website in general.  I don't know if we could be as specific to get individual ball tips for each ball.  But maybe go over some tips and understanding the equipment.  And for the PBA patterns, we could definitely find some info for that.

Right, I know we have had some things slip through on Ballreviews before but Ballreviews is a forum based site.  The tips site is not going to have a forum.  There will probably be opportunities to post on the site but it is going to be sent through us before being posted to the site.  It will still have some options like a Question of the Week type thing, and review the answers that are sent in and only post the ones that answer the questions the best.  Something like that.

Great ideas so far.  Looking forward to hearing more ideas and options.  We are open for anything.

Thanks

How about tapping some of the USBC certified coaches, Pro Players, and Eagle winners that frequent this site (a la Jeff Carter, Riggs, etc.) for some of their tips.
Also, look to the BR FAQ for some of the tips that could be transferred to the new site.

Thanks again for the ideas.  We are going to have articles from a lot of different places posted in one place.  Hopefully, we can set up the articles for direct use instead of links.  If we have to do a link, it should be a direct link to the article and not a link to the website that has the article somewhere in it.  Also if any users finds a tip somewhere that we do not have, they can let us know and we can try to get it posted on our site.  I could definitely check through some of the users on here for their tips too.  Also, this other site in not going to be forum based.  Anything that goes on the site would be sent to us before being posted.  On Ballreviews, anyone can post at anytime so that's how you get some of the posts that slip through.  This site is just going to be set up for information.

Thanks

Take a look at Ron Clifton's website.  That would be a good place to start & then incorporate your own ideas & technology into making your new site work.

As far as the politics/religion comments going, Scott already said it wouldn't be a forum style site.  And that's why BR has a "Miscellaneous Non-Bowling" category.  Don't click on any of those links & you won't see the "b.s.".  Just a suggestion......

And rather useless with forum software that only allows you to search back 30 days!

I think we already have information available - some free and some not.

Ron C has some great tips, and it's free.  My300club.com is out there, but with a yearly membership fee.  Those are just 2 on the top of my head - I'm know there are more and I'm sure I have many bookmarked on one of my old computers.

The upside of having a forum is that you can get information from many different bowlers.  I don't need a pro telling me how something SHOULD be done, especially if our styles are completely different.

It's nice to come to a forum where you can get the "well, I have a similar style and this is what works for me on conditions X."

I've received many tips via PM for both bowling and pro shop techniques.  I don't know why these were posted publicly, but I'm glad they were shared.

It's nice to have information and tips about how things SHOULD be done, but it's also nice to have personal experience tips for real world solutions.

Thanks again for all the ideas.  This is not a membership website so all the information will be free.  Let us know if you can think of anything else.

Also, it would be interesting if you could provide more information about international bowlers from Japan, Korea, Malayasia and so forth.  Have them provide some info on the conditions they encounter, the equipment they use and the tips they can provide.
