Title: No Clue
Post by: thewhiz on May 17, 2019, 06:58:42 AM
Bowled on Athens pattern last night.  Struggle as I do with all sport shots.  Have not been bowling on them very long.  Here are the balls I used.  Chaos.  Web Tour.  Statement Solid.  Pink Hammer.
I have a rhodman pearl, hustle ink & rebel yell at home.  Any suggestions?  I am a medium rev bowler with about 15 mph ball speed.

What type of problems were you having? Ball not coming into the pocket? Cross over to the other side of the head pin?

All of the above.  Sometimes it would jump.  Then I put it a little right and it would hang.

Where was your ball at the end of the pattern, which is 40 feet at last check?

That's a good question?  Maybe around 8 or 10.  The guys with the bigger hand see to get it out to 4 or 5 down lane.  Past 40 feet I mean.  That's where I get messed up.  If I got it right too early it was gutter time.

On sport patterns, you need to see the lane front to back, not side to side. Try getting the ball to 6 or 7 as straight as possible, watch the reaction as it exits the pattern, and move your feet left based off that, but keep the exit point the same.

So your saying get the ball to 6 pr 7 playing straight up 6 or 7 and go from there.  Then if it hooks across to Brooklyn move left however many boards and still get it to 6 or 7 just 40 feet down the lane correct.

This sounds like you got your angles a little too wide. I've seen Athens play very different depending on the lane surface.

I think the one thing you need to assess is your accuracy and repeatability. If playing closed angles is something you're not used to doing, it's something you should practice.

The other option is play more of the middle with a smoother reaction in the 15-20 range out to 8-10 board if that's where you had some success. Smoother reaction will generally keep you in play longer as you bowl on sport shots as long as it's not a slick lane surface
