Telecast improvements
« on: October 12, 2003, 07:44:48 PM »
My biggest problem with the PBA telecast is the angles they show the bowlers from. There is only one angle I want to see and that is behind the bowler and slightly elevated so that I can see where they laid the ball down, where it crosses at the arrows and where the breakpoint is.

The approach level views gives me general ideas of this but not as good as from a higher angle. The shots showing the bowler in the front and the ball rolling towards the camera are worthless in my book.

If they want to show multiple angles then split the screen and show the angle I like on one side and some other angle on the other.

Another feature they could add without a lot of problem is ball speed data. They could post it on the bottom of the screen on every shot both strike and spare balls.

They could add ball and drilling info as well. The soak the ball manufactures for enough money they could let them get a ball plug in on the show.

Any other features you would like to see?

That is EXACTLY what I was telling IcemQuick this morning.  Those angles are completely worthless.  The one frame when Smith blew the rack and a pin came flying out past the pin sweep would have been cool to see from the over the shoulder view, but they only showed it from the pin deck camera, which sucks.

They only need to have the behind the bowler and elevated angle for the live shot.  They can use the other angles for replays of the shot only.

I've been screaming this at anyone who will listen (are you there, ESPN?) for three years now...

KILL THE CHANNEL-CAM!!

No one who bowls wants to see that angle.  Only a silly what-can-we-do-that's-different producer would think of putting a camera there.  It's dumb, D-U-M, dumb!!!

Not only that, but when they go to show the replay, and Randy says "watch this", instead of showing the ball going throught the pins, they show the front view of the bowler and his reaction. What a bunch of crap..!! =:^D

I want to see a "What's in the Bag" segment.  I'd like to know the bowlers are throwing, how they are drilled, and why that seemed to work for them that week.

Come on PBA, get a clue

Has anyone thought about emailing their thoughts and suggestions to both espn and the pba?? If not, I would say its a step in the right direction!!
