Nice little racist picture modeling off their new pink STORM breast cancer awareness shirts.
-
I fail to see how this is racist or offensive in any way. Unprofessional maybe but not racist.
-
If its accurate what's the problem? If it looked like a viking hat would it be raciest? Baseball cap? How about a pot on his head? Would that be Devo'ist?
-
I wish people would leave Devo alone!
-
I dont see a problem with it. Everybody is way over sensitive these days.
-
So you're ignoring the fact that they are promoting BREST CANCER AWARENESS and trying to label this as racist, wow. Talk about not being sensitive...
-
I'm not offended by it, but that doesn't mean that was a wise move. These days, you have to watch every move you make, every word you say, and every picture you take. When your business depends on make "the public" happy, you have to go out of your way to avoid ticking off potential customers. Again, I'm not up in arms over this by any means; however, I just see this as a potential issue that was totally avoidable.

I agree. I don't have a problem with the picture personally, but how about a little PR awareness for a major company trying to be respectable.
-
Exactly the point i was trying to make.
-
What's racist about this? A guy wearing pink? Where is race involved?
And for Breast cancer awareness month? For that, since I have relatives who have breast cancer, I'd pick up one of these shirts and wear it in a heartbeat if it meant raising awareness and finding a cure. And I'm not a Storm person.
No-one took offense when Ken Griffey Jr. used a pink Louisville Slugger bat (http://www.bigtimebats.com/catalog/?product=3707) to promote breast cancer awareness. So why is it a problem here, especially when a lot of the lady pros are on Storm's Staff?!?
There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with this picture, except for the fact that he could be an extra in Devo's next video.

Youre right, Storm took it off of their facebook page for no reason...
-
Nothing to do with pink.

I'm thinking the raciest they are trying to imply is because he is wearing the hat and holding his hands like he is praying. Possibly Vietnamese
Lets see what google says......raciest or not raciest
Google search Vietnamese and click images and this is what it shows:

I'm going to say accurate, and NOT raciest. Especially considering so many on this board refuse to buy non-American made products............in bowling...........well bowling balls......................well bowling balls that aren't plastic. Yes only bowling balls made in the USA that aren't plastic lol.
Relax

It's not that is it actually racist or not. It's that it is being questioned at all. Any good PR dept would not post anything that could be questioned - even if it's only by a small %.
-
Yes, the potentially offensive element of this has nothing to do with the shirt he is wearing. It has to do with the "hat" he is wearing, the pose, and the facial expression. It has nothing to do with him wearing a pink shirt to promote breast cancer awareness. THAT would be a good PR move. The "hat" and the other elements are the bad move.
-
You know just how well we have it in this world when people have time to sit around and worry about bad PR for a bowling ball company. ::)

I agree :)
But, if people want bowling to be taken seriously, then their big commercial companies should behave as such.

You're Firrrrrredddd!!!!

Forget Storm. This guy just ruined Dockers for me. Racist.

I agree, I'll never be able to wear khakis again in good conscience.
-
What's even wrong about this picture? There's no evidence to suggest this guy hates or has a prejudice for Asian people. Get over yourself.
-
I'm inclined to say 'not racist'. As kids, we can remember seeing Bugs Bunny or Flinstone cartoons which went all in on the stereotypical Asian image. Did this guy go all in? Clearly 'no'.
-
I wonder what's more "racist". The guy in the picture clowning around or the guy who cries "racist" at every non PC thing he sees or hears? Where in the world does it say anything that this guy is wearing a shirt in honor of breast cancer awareness and this is a Storm approved picture? Oh, it doesn't. Talk about making assumptions.
-
I thought he was under a hair dryer and just praying for it to be over!
-
seriously?? this is being racist?? i looked at the picture and honestly do not know what the picture is trying to capture.. or what the fool was trying to do???
Obviously the guy was trying to be funny about something IDK what, does anyone know????
people are so flipping quick to label everything Racist!!!!!!!!
-
I think it shows a decidedly anti-christian theme.
How DARE they show a demon in the upper left corner?
I DEMAND the Christ be given equal time on display, else I get Westboro Baptist involved!
Racist? I think not. Now, satanic? Looks it to me.
-
Im glad I dont let 'reachers' in society bother me. Ugh, shouldn't this be in the unmoderated forum?
-
Not one person in this thread said they thought it was racist. The point was that Storm should be careful what they post because if they don't, they will get ruckus crap like this.
-
I just want the boobs to be good. That is my primary concern. :-X :)

Can't we all laugh and joke around anymore?!?
HOLY Crap! I mean I prolly just offended someone by putting holy and crap together...
Personally I wish I could have been the one taking the picture since they were laughing about it while taking it. What if it was an Asian person doing the same thing? Just get Raiden in the picture... same type of hat and lighting bolts hahah

Damn.. I haven't played that game in AGES! I need to find it again (the Original Mortal Kombat, not MKII or the others).

Yeah, let's just go back to the good old days when we could say any damned stupid, ignorant, racist, small-minded thing we wanted to say and none of those darned minority groups dared speak their minds against it! Everything was so much better back then. Well, if you were a white male in the middle to upper class it was. But screw everyone else and their feelings. I've got jokes!
Obviously, that is hyperbole because, as I've said about five times already, I didn't find the picture to be offensive. But who am I to be able to tell someone else that they should or should not be offended by something like that? If I chose to do so, I could attempt to explain to that person why he or she should not take offense to such a thing, but if they truly feel it was intended to mock or demean them and people like them, who am I to argue?
The funniest thing that needs to be pointed out here is that unless I missed it, I don't think I saw a single person actually come on here and say that they were offended by it. Many of us are simply just stating how we could see where such a photo could potentially offend. You have to love a theoretical debate.
-
Some people are to F'ing sensitive..its just a guy goofing off and having fun!!
-
But, if people want bowling to be taken seriously, then their big commercial companies should behave as such.
Correct. Storm's marketing department needs a major overhaul. They may be good at selling their products. But if this is how they attempt to address a public issue, they are weak.
The picture is not racist---just plain stupid.
-
Again, Big Jake, why do you get to decide what people should and shouldn't be offended by? Obviously, the picture didn't bother you just like it didn't bother me, but why do either one of us get to tell somebody else that they're wrong for taking offense to it? Answer that question for me please.
