Title: Old rubber balls
Post by: atomized on May 12, 2003, 03:34:51 PM
Is there a problem throwing the old rubber balls of yesterday on dry dry dry conditions? Does ABC have a problem with it? Are there any advantages to using today's plastic balls or urethanes to the old rubber balls?
Just like some opinions since there has been much said about todays dry lane balls hooking too much. THX

I have a teammate who told me he is using his old LT-48 at another house.  I dont think ABC has a problem with it but I have heard that some houses dont like to see rubber balls because they leave marks on the synthetic lanes and because of the amount of oil there are more ball stops.  Perhaps some more knowledgeable folks could add to this?

Like the condition of the lanes, oily or dry, the type of ball material has to match up to your game.  Remember, some of us were able to hook the old rubber balls but others never could.

To my knowledge, there's nothing wrong with using the old rubber balls - black beauty, amf amflite, mineralite, manhattan rubber, etc.
Have the pro shop check it out for legality - top weight, side weight, etc - and it should be fine.
I've never heard of a center not allowing the old stuff out there.

One advantage of bowling over golf
is that you seldom lose the ball.

I seem to remember Danny Wiseman throwing a Black Diamond for a spare ball.

Thanks this is very encouraging, still have an old Dick Weber 5 star label drill, and maybe it will do well on the very dry shot. Good to see their are still some finding good use out of some old equipment.
