Title: One Ball
Post by: Locke on April 12, 2008, 11:33:05 AM
If you could only take one ball to a tournament what would it be?

I would go with my polished black label as it is smooth and versatile.

Depends on the tourney and the shot that going to be out of course, but I'd take the Doom.

n00dlejester,

Greetings!

Pin Buffer is the distance the pin is from your VAL.  The closer the pin is to your VAL, the more angular the reaction.  A large pin buffer means a smoother hook.

Here is a link to show what pin buffer is from the Roto-Grip Asymmetrical Drill Guide...

http://www.rotogrip.com/products/pdf/asymmetrical-drill-guide.pdf

Hope this helps!

Mike

Now does this hold true for the MB as well?  That is, MB closer to VAL = more angular shape than MB further from VAL.

Thank you!

Post by: srlunatic on April 14, 2008, 11:26:51 AM
n00dlejester,

It is actually mostly the opposite.  A MB placement by the VAL will create a smoother break point shape then if you place it further away (nearer the thumb). The further away the more of a sharper breakpoint shape you will have.

Go to:    http://www.rotogrip.com/products/balls/video/  and click on Seminar, then have a look at the Seminar 13 Video

There you can see the difference using different Pin Buffers and it's Pete Weber rolling the balls...

SD73 CLASSIC stack leverage. Can make it go down and in, can swing the lane just flares, hits and strikes. I CANNOT I repeat CANNOT make it go straight for ten pins so I gues I would just have to throw a backup ball at that one.
