Of course it's popular.  They are selling their product at 20-25% the normal rate and feeding you to do it.  The only thing it does is devalue the product.  A bowling center isn't WalMart.  You don't make it up in volume.

As someone that has spent time working in the bowling industry I would expect you to understand the economics of running a bowling center and not defend $8.00 specials.

$8.00 specials are put on by proprietors that don't understand the cost to run their business.

Or they are put on by proprietors who are desperate for at least SOME cash flow. It's nice to make a profit, but business is not just about profit. If you don't have money to pay today's bills, then you don't have a business.

Especially for smaller businesses, cash flow is the most important thing.

You can please part of the people part of the time, but cannot please all the people all the time. You have every reason to criticize, due to freedom of speech, but, being on the outside looking in, it's only a personal individual comment/feeling and quite useless unless one is directly involved, which I figure you are not.

I have been in all aspects of the bowling industry outside working for a ball company.  I have managed a center, run a pro shop, and worked for a distributor.  Most centers run specials on Sunday Mornings.  I lived in Atlanta, GA for over 30 years.  All Brunswick centers had $1.50 per game specials from 9-12 noon ON SUNDAYS.  I now live in Tampa and see the same thing.  This isnt something that is done every day.  It is only a couple hours on a Sunday Morning and that is it.  The centers still get their $4.50-5.00 a game every other time for open play.  And as a former center manager, it is a way to get peak business during non peak times.  In the 36 years I have been bowling; I have always seen specials run on Sunday Mornings and a couple nights during the week between 9:00-Close.  You might "give away" a few bucks on games.  But you make a killing on snack bar and alcohol sales.
