End of year payout?
« on: May 17, 2014, 09:10:07 PM »
I am in a trio league that is not big money, it is associated with work. I bowl with my wife and my mom. This is not a big money league and i am the second high average and second in every Male category in the league. We get like 20 for high game and series and 15 for second not big money at all.

Last week the secretary comes to my wife and tells her we will not be getting any prize money back. There is a rule that says we must bowl 66 games to be eligible for end of year prizes. I have never seen it and i have read our league bylaws.

We paid every week. Never missed paying. My work schedule doesn't allow me to get there every week. So i have 63 games and my wife had 57.

Not sure i will be bowling this league next year after 10 years i think i am done. The secretary has become a B.A.B.

Your team should get it's place prize money, which you would get a share of.

The having to have bowled two-thirds of the season only applies to the the individual awards. (Unless theres a league rule against it)

117b. Qualification
The following procedure applies to prize distribution:
1. Team: Team prizes shall be distributed according to verbal or written agreements.
a. If there is a dispute on the division of team prizes, it shall be decided by the board of directors.
b. No team can win more than one prize in any group of prizes, unless otherwise provided by
league rule.
2. Individual: To qualify for individual league prizes, a player must bowl the required
number of games.
a. The following provisions also apply, unless otherwise provided by league rules.
1) A member shall have bowled at least two-thirds of the games of the league schedule.
2) If a substitute later becomes a regular member, the games bowled as a substitute shall be
included in the required number of games. (This does not apply to the league high average
award.)

We ran into the same problem in our mixed 4 league.  We entered the league for the
second half and were not told of this rule abour bowling 2/3 of the league's games.
We should have been given a reduced league fee or the league should have been split halves.  We were definitely misled.  We also finished 4th out of 24 teams and our
pay returns were definitely below par.  The secretary also did not give a breakdown for money paid in and paid out.  We are not going to file any complaints, just want to
get away from that situation.

We won more games than anybody else, but we finished 4th in the first half and 3rd in the second half.

I have been a part of this league for 10 years and have never seen the 66 game requirement, the secretary told my wife last week after she rolled the highest handicap series for the women that she wouldn't get anything for it. As she didn't bowl enough weeks. But nothing was said until she beat someone else out for the high series.

Not really a biggie as we are talking 20 bucks or so, my wife is butt hurt over it but i don't really care.

We have the 66game thing here as well, but as stated before, that only refers to INDIVIDUAL awards for us.

Even in years that I didn't qualify for individual awards, I still got a share of the team money, based on the number of games I paid for.

I'll reiterate what most have said: that rule is for the persona awards, not for prize money. For prize money it depends on how much the team paid, and where the team finished. The team is awarded the money and its up to the team to split up the team award.

If such a rule in not in the league by-laws, you should file a compliant with the USBC and the local association. They're basically stealing your money.

I have been a part of this league for 10 years and have never seen the 66 game requirement,

It's a USBC rule (and not a new rule), you would have to had read the rule book, some leagues list it in their league rules also. but others don't since it's in the rule book and they didn't change it in someway .

Thanks for the replies, Yep i found it. My wife was the one really butt hurt about it because the secretary was rubbing it in.

I guess being nice about things has really disappeared. My wife just had a nice week of bowling way over her average.

She has a 150 average and has never been close to shooting 6. But that night she shot 165, 222, 212 for a 599. And she was excited and then the secretary comes over and tells her dumb crap. And crushed my wifes high.

I sat down and explained it to my wife that it is a USBC rule and se is a little more understanding about it now. She thought it was the secretary trying to hold her down...

BigBaller, I think that USBC rule for 2/3 season was put in place because theoretically a bowler could join House A's Monday night 6pm league as a part time team member and join House B's Monday night 6pm league as a part time team member, alternate between both leagues, qualify and win individual high game awards in both leagues with about 50% of the total games.  The 2/3's rule requirement would prevent that from happening.
