Calling it quits for a while.....
« on: August 02, 2007, 12:38:11 PM »
Not many of you know me nor have I been posting all that much lately. For the ones that do know me, You all have been great. Thank you for the advice, tips, ideas, and whatever else I could be forgetting. I will check back to the site from time to time, if i post it will be on something I can help with.

The main reason for my bowling departure is because I have lost the love and passion for the game. I am no longer having fun on the lanes. Every shot I take feels wrong even if it was a crushing pocket hit with a kamakazi messenger taking out the 10 pin (thats my idea of a perfect strike). I was told that once you lose the love, passion and fun for the game that its time to step back and remove yourself from the game for a while. Thank You Norm Duke for that advise!

I have sold off 80% of my bowling gear, I have 2 balls left to sell off. Another thing to help me out with this whole thing is, My job is putting me into 2nd shift which forces me to not join any leauges during the week. The few leauges available on the weekends I am not interested in so this is the perfect time for me to take as long as I need away from bowling. I will keeping 2 bowling balls with me, if and when I feel like bowling I will do so but not till I have that urge to do so.

So, again thank you to those who have helped me in the past. I hope I have been helpful to other here on this site. When will i return?? I do not know that answer.....

Mike, the best bet when you feel the way you do is to just step away for a while.  Once that burn-out feeling sets in, just let it go until the itch comes back.  Who knows when it will come back, but at some point when you have more time it probably will.

Enjoy your time away from bowling.  The last time I took a break from bowling, it lasted for 22 years!  I have just come back about 6 months ago, and loving every minute of it!

Mike,

Take some time off.

The itch-to-bowl may return sooner than you think.

Just keep a couple of balls drilled up...
when you get the desire back, then go bowl!

Fun bowling with you at a few of our BR get togethers.
You're always welcome to bowl with us, when we get together.

Good Luck.

Sorry to hear this Mike.  You had/have a real love for the game.  Stop by BR and say hi now and then.

If you were married with 2 kids under 5, you wouldn't quit.  I left for 3 years, but soon as saw what bedtime was like, I ran back to the bowling alley. LOL.......I'm at once a week also, but I do love it again.

Mike--

You should just join one of those old people 9am leagues and mop the floor with 'em.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

sounds like a little burn out.

go to golf galaxie and buy some golf clubs.

play some golf.

watch the cubs,  watch the sox<<< ok bad example there.

get ready for the bears.

stay away from leagues for a while.

travel to a few different houses and open bowl.  when you want.

and cut down on the salt in your diet.

good luck.

I felt that burn after this season.  My average took a huge dip (219, 212, 206) over the past 3 seasons and I was bowling too much and just didn't enjoy it as much.  I decided to put the balls away for the summer and haven't picked them up since the end of leagues in April.

I got a flyer in the mail for the tournament series I bowl in with the date of the first tournament of the season and I have to say I got pretty pumped up!  Now I need to find a league...well I'd like to...if not..oh well, tournaments are more fun anyways.

I'm going to practice for the first time on Monday and I can't wait....taking the summer off was the best thing I could have done!

LOL, well I would do that but because of my job putting me into 2nd shift I will not be able to do anything R/C related for a while. What I might do is sell off my R/C gear for the money so I can drop that cash into my truck. Plus the 2 R/C shops that are in my area have both closed up shop within 6 months of opening. So theres no real place to run my vehicals at.

As for the other responses, Thanks for the awesome responses. I will tell you what, last night I actually had a spark kinda return. I actually looked forward to bowling last night. This is a 9 pin no tap tournament and well, my 1st and 3rd game were natural games the 2nd and 4th games were 2 no tap strikes. The natural games were 278 and 277. I missed the cashing spot by 1 lousy pin but its the fact that I felt awesome for a change.

This doesnt mean im gonna stay around for another season, still need time away from the lanes. I will consider going to another BR meet in North Eastern IL if there is another one any time soon.

Thanks again to everyone, have a great weekend.

Mike -- Take as much time off as you need.  Keep a ball or two, you'll want to open bowl or bowl the No Tap occasionally.  When you're ready to compete again, if you're still on second shift, ask your center manager about the possibility of starting a morning league.  Our center has one that bowls Wednesday mornings, 4 members, any combination of male/female.  It's a popular league for second shifters, housewives, retirees, etc.  --  JohnP
