Respect
« on: July 18, 2007, 09:54:42 AM »
Just saw it on Hollywood Squares on GSN: According to Dr. Joyce Brothers, you are more likely to be more intelligent if you are a good bowler.  The correct answer given by the lovely Ericka Dunlap.

I agree with BOWL.  Respect is something you earn.  It is not something that is given just because you think it should.  Plus, when you earn something, it feels more like an actual accomplishment.

I guess my point by titling this post "Respect" was the plethora of posts where bowlers at athletes and bowling as a sport was not given respect.

Nothing at all to do with respecting a competitor or elder or any particular person.  Sorry y'all misconstrued what I said.

I believe that being an expert in almost any endeavor, whether it's academic or athletic or creative requires above average intelligence.  There are simply too many variables, too much data, and too much analytic thinking that goes into expert decision-making for a real moron to excel.

That's not to say that people of average or below average intelligence cannot be good or great, there are plenty of examples of both.  But I think that the truly exceptional, the truly gifted will nearly always be pretty smart even outside their field.
