Consistently good, consistently not great.
« on: October 31, 2007, 06:28:33 AM »
I'm averaging about 208 right now, which is about as high as my ave. has ever been.  It's not uncommon for me to knock on the door of a 700 series, but after 8-plus years of league bowling I've only had one above 700.

It seems like I can be very consistenly good, often bowling a 220 average for a period of a month or more.  I just never have 3 really great games in a row.

Anyone else out there doing consistently well but staying stuck under that ledge?

I have that same issue. I win tournaments and stuff but the average ain't high for me and my series high has been a 657 in league. My 9pin no tap high has been slightly under 800 but thats 9 pin.

We all have bouts like that.  Before I got my 600, every time I was close a friend of mine would tell me how he had a dozen 590+ series before he got his first 6.  How many people have a high of 799?

The way I moved past the "always the bridesmaid, never the cigar" stage was to repeat to myself that this will not be my high game, my high series, there will be another.  I'd be on a four-bagger and throw a lousy fifth shot every time.  Eventually, I learned that four-baggers aren't that hard to come by, I'll have another chance, so if I screw it up it's not the end of the world.  I'll have another 250 or 270 game eventually.

Once I relaxed and accepted that if this is "it", my body will do what it has to do and there's only so much that my mind can or should do about it, then the scores and series came.

Speaking of 9-pin no tap, I bowled my first one last weekend.  Started ugly with a 223, then threw a pair of 300's to finish with an 823 "scratch".

I might just take the low road and blame the poor first game on the fact that we weren't allowed any practice throws due to the first shift being wayyyy behind schedule.  Still should have had a shot at the high 800's if I had my wits about me, though.

Thats a good series there. Some think 9 pin is easy but not always..lol during practice throughout the week I'll get nines everytime...get to tournament and 8's...lol dont get it. But its fun.

No kidding.  I had a real 600 long before I had a no-tap one.  We had a 9-pin "tournament" for Bowl for the Cure two weeks ago and many of the good bowlers here were shooting 550-600 sets.  It's the attitude that one only needs 9 instead of wanting to throw a good enough ball to strike.

I usually go off adrenaline in the 9 Pin tournaments. I usually throw the "stroker" line up the right side at 19MPH and let the pin action take care of it. Normal bowling Im usaully around 17-18MPH and play the cranker or tweener line but I've found a good setup for the 9 Pin tournaments. Last tournament I shot a 777 scratch series because I had a crap frist game of 203 then 288 and 286. Me and my partner still shot a 1700's series after handicap. We have shot a 1806 or something like that once but that was high as we have shot and 3rd or 4th highest ever in our house.
