Poll: Best dry lane ball (past or present)
« on: July 24, 2005, 09:55:59 AM »
For any definition of dry, like hooking heads or Sahara desert. Three come to mind:
Ebonite Optix Spider (when I was a full roller)
RotoGrip Sonic X pearl (found one on the rack )
Brunswick Monster SlayR (with a LOT of polish, currently using)

Ready set GO!

"Smokey this is not 'Nam this is bowling, there are rules"
"Maybe those Ebonite balls hit too hard. They're too good" -Jason Couch after leaving a stone 8 pin
"Yeah but the Brunswick ones get all ten though" -Brad Angelo
¡Viva la nación!

quote:
Technically, a dry lane is one that is stripped from foul line to the deck, with no oil applied.  We do not bowl on dry lanes.  We bowl on lanes that have been oiled.  There is always some oil left somewhere on the lane when we bowl on it.  The volume and placement of it will vary tremendously, so using the term dry lane is relative.  Everyone has a different definition of dry, based on their experience with lane conditions.

There are times I have bowled on dry lanes (usually weekends) and "been forced" to practice on stripped-Sahara Dry lanes. A quick story:

I bowl on a Sunday Morning Mens League every winter; just recently the owner banned pre-game practice ONLY FOR THIS LEAGUE (as far as I know) because of crybabies, whereas there is open bowling while the shot gets laid down before every other league during the week and NO ONE SAYS SQUAT

Thus this topic. From late March til May I practiced on stripped lanes upstairs with the three balls I mentioned in the first post just to warm up (gave the Spider to a friend). And before you say "ditch the house and move to another one", let me point out that we're down to two bowling alleys in Hudson County, NJ (Playdrome Roosevelt was torn down) and I don't have a car. And I do like everyone's opinions so far. Keep it up!
