Help Choosing a new Ball.
« on: March 16, 2004, 12:42:05 AM »
I consider myself a Novice Bowler looking to better my Game.  I'm not up on all the terminology, and not sure about Drilling placement, etc.. So please bare with me if I speak in Laymens Terms.

I currently throw an Ebonite Vortex V2 Particle.  It's held up well for as many Games as I've thrown on it, but it's never had that Hard Aggressive back end flop that I want.  I'm right handed and to get  an Aggressive angle to the Pocket, I have to Throw almost straight down the 5 board.  I can also go further out and get the Break I'm looking for, but to do so, I have to Slow the ball down considerably and it's just not comfortable.  I have a Med-High Velocity Shot, and I'm looking for a Ball that will carry further down the lane then Snap into the Pocket.

I've been to 4 Different pro shops.  Two of them recommended the Columbia Full Throttle.  One recommended the Storm Triple-X Factor, and the last said to go with Ebonite Killer Instinct.  Of course Each pro shop is trying to push their main Product line.  But my question, before I spend that much on such an Aggressive ball, is there anywhere on the web that will give an Unbiased Comparison on The similar balls from different Brands?

Thanks for the help

The V2 particle is already a pretty aggressive ball.  Particles by nature use energy/hook over the entire lane, so they don't look like they're hooking hard in the backend.  They will handle more oil, but not necessarily hook a bunch on the usual medium oil at best house shot.  I'd suggest getting a mid grade reactive.  Something that will get through the front part of the lane easier and hook more in the backend.  There is no reason to get anything more than a midgrade ball.  Save your V2 Particle for when it's oily, and use the reactive most of the time.  Some choices...

Brunswick Bruiser
Columbia Ti Traction
Dynothane Vendetta Black
Hammer Blade
Roto Grip Silver Streak Solid
Storm Razor Wire
Track Crunch

I think that you should save yourself some money and get a good mid-priced ball.  I would look into either the hammer blade series (blade reactive or blade pearl), or maybe a columbia detour.  Also, a v2 clean or crunch time would work as well.  Any one of those balls should give you a hard backend reaction.

I would recommend visionary's blue sparkle gryphon or brunswick's fuze eliminator.

You might also consider a dynothane thing.

Good Luck, cooksey

Novice bowler, looking for more snap, apparently in an aggressive ball.  Well, I have a couple of suggestions:

Dynothane: Anomaly.
Columbia:  Throttle Up.
Brunswick: Raging Inferno.
Storm:     X-Factor Reloaded.
Track:     Phenom Unleashed.
Lane One:  Uranium.

Now, personally, were I you, I'd back off a little and go to a mid-priced ball with more backend that is a little less aggressive overall.  Here are a few really good ones:

Brunswick: Monster Bruiser.
Dynothane: Vendetta Particles.
Storm:     Eraser PBT
Track:     Crunch Time (Crash should be a remake of the Voodoo, also very good)
Columbia:  WOW Pearl, Wicked BRT.

see my post as well in the beginners board where you posted this also....

you can also complement the V2 particle with a V2 Clean.....or go to a mid priced ball........I'll also toss in the Silver Streak Solid and look at the new Retro Resurrection.....
