POLL: Should league bowlers get a pro shop discount?
« on: August 17, 2009, 01:09:44 PM »
Not talking about your ball a month regular customer, but your average every day league bowler... Is it right that they expect a discount?

Discuss.

i dont know if the EXPECTATION should be there. but i believe it to be up to the proshop and for a proshop prolly not a bad idea to drum up business.

Not unless the proshop operator is getting part of the money the league is bringing in or has some agreement with the center that will reimburse him.  Other than regular customers, I don't think anyone should get a discount in any pro shop, golf, bowling, whatever.

The pro shop in my house does offer a discount for league bowlers. I assume he's trying to keep the hard core league bowlers from going elsewhere and giving the casual league bowler an incentive to buy a new ball.

No. He doesn't have to give a discount.

Do discounts on services not goods...

If they buy equipment from your shop (even one piece a year) waive the fee for a change in surface and stuff like that.  That might be enough for the average every day league bowler.

The local shop I do business with does stuff like that and will include a free microfiber towel and cleaner with high performance balls.  Little things like that make an impression with customers and might not cost as much as knocking $20 off the price of a ball.

No I don't think that they should expect a discount unless maybe they buy a couple of balls at the same time or multiple things that add up like shoes and roller at the same time.

Should it be expected, no. If it would definately increase your sales, then it wouldnt hurt to give one out.

The center I use to work at provided a discount. However it was all one company. The bowl owned the pro shop so it all went into the same pocket. If you are leasing space it is your call. Could it help to get business? With out a doubt it could. I think we did a 10% discount. It was not much but sometimes enough to keep people in our building.

If I had a pro shop business, I'd probably offer discounts on services, drilling (with ball purchase), and on accessories. Something like buy two balls, get 50% off a tote - or a free towel (with my shop's name on it).

Sure, just like everyone that has a drivers license should be entitled to a discount from their mechanic.

No discount unless the pro shop owner also owns the bowling center. We have agreed to give league officers a 15% discount, but if we apply that discount, we can't afford to "haggle" at all regarding price.

The pro shop that does quality work should never need to apologize for making a profit. Every other business out there exists to turn a profit, but somehow when it comes to bowlers and their equipment "profit" is a four letter word.

No discount. Unless they are a good customer and bring in others. If you give every league bowler a discount then might as well just lower your prices because 90%+ will be getting that discounted price.
