Title: Pot games
Post by: novawagonmaster on December 13, 2007, 07:34:04 AM
I can't get anything going.
I would like to bowl for money once in a while, but nobody around here does this anymore.

Does anyone still bowl for money?
Do you travel to other centers looking for action, or is it more of a friendly grudge match with people who know each other?

Usually just a group that gets together.  We have our Sunday "Church" league that is nothing more than about 40 guys that hit the lanes to pot bowl.  $1.50 lineage, $2 a game, $1 is for singles, other $1 is for your doubles partner.  We draw each game for partners.

Cost evens out to what you would normally expect to pay for lineage alone, this just gives a chance to make a couple of bucks.

Pot bowling has pretty much died.  With he powerful balls and the easier conditions, winning is more a matter of carry rather than execution.

One game match gives even Ray Charles a chance to win.

At our league back home before I came to college we had tournaments each week. It was an 8 person tournament, one was scratch and one was handicap. You payed like 5 bucks and could win 40 which made you like 35 bux. Win both tournaments and you're doin alright.

They also played poker, you could win 10-15 dollars maybe more if you got lucky.

Other than that it was just league. The league I bowl in now is like that, boooooorrriiiiinnnnggggg. Lol.

We used to do $5. A buck a game, two bucks for series. Now, we went to the $5, but have an eliminator. Say you have 20 guys get it, break it down to 10 for the second game, then 2-3 the final game. Depending on how many places you want to pay out 1,2, or 3.

This doesn't let you get dominated by someone on a hot streak for a game, and your chances are better. I've squeaked in with a 189 on the low end, with 240+ being the high for that game.

going back two years ago there was a place where pot games were like every thursday and friday night. it got to a point where we had 3 pairs and 8 on each....putting up five a game was nice. and you could always break even on a bad night just by having one good game for yourself. man those were the good days. now a days you are lucky to get anyone who will bowl with within a three lane radius of you if you say  wanna bet a dollar?

There is a group of guys who bowl pot games every Monday after our sport league.  It looks like word is getting out, the group seems to get bigger each week.

At the South Pointe on Sunday mornings, about 20-25 guys. Costs $12 for 6
games, draw cards for doubles partners, pay 2 places.   Lineage is 50 cents
per game.  Not going to get rich, but definitely good practice.
