Pretty Cool Thing Happened Last Night
« on: February 15, 2022, 07:56:02 AM »
I walk into my home center last night ready to bowl league when I hear this voice saying "Excuse me, sir."  Not sure he was talking to me I kept walking because I didnt even see this guy.  I am wearing a hoodie and I hear the guy say it again, only this time I got a slight tug on my hoodie.  So I turn around and he says, "What is your name?"  I politely answered him.  Kid you not.  He reaches out shakes my hand and says, my name is Dale Eagle.  My jaw hit the floor and instantly I mimick the flying eagle gesture he would do when he was winning a title on Tour back in the 80s.  Sounding like a moron, as I am mimicking the gesture, I said "You mean the guy that would do this on a telecast?" He smiled and said, "yes sir".

So we talked for about 30 minutes, and he mentioned that he is now 75 years old to which I took a shot and said that he was back when guys like Handegard, Stus, LeBlanc, and others were the top guys on the senior tour and he confirmed that he entered the Senior Circuit just after those guys.  The coolest part of the whole conversation was that he told me that he has seen me bowl a couple times prior to that evening and said he thought I was the most fundamentally sound two hander he has ever seen.  Of course, not to be rude, I said thank you but instantly thought that was pretty high regard when you have guys like Kyle Troup out there making a name for himself.  While there are the obvious guys like Belmo and Simonsen, I can honestly say I am smoother than those two but obviously they would give me the business everytime we stepped foot on the lanes.  But the short amount of time with a Tour titleist that I remember from my childhood absolutely made my night.

This is the guy I am talking about.  Funny he is trying to give Maximum Box the business and even does the Eagle gesture towards the end of their match.  Too funny.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCaMZzQKfU4

Wow! wow! wow! How did I not see this guy before?

Dale Eagle is very much a character for sure! Very entertaining indeed and looks like he loves to have fun!

As luck would have it, he was throwing the soon to be released 3D Offset as well.

Maximum Bob sure gave him the business though. So much power and so many revs are hard to beat!

Great show for sure!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Dale was every bit of the showman, but he wasn't a showman in the cocky way that we'd normally think of showmen to be. He showed off to have fun, and have a fun time doing it. Yes, it was for titles, but you could even see his opponents break character (lack of a better word) and laugh along with him, even though they were trying their hardest to stay composed..

That was part of his schtick: if he could get them to break character and have a good time, that took them off their game for him to capitalize. Plus it gave the crowd a chance to participate.

Imagine Dale up against PDW, Rash, Daugherty, or others that scream out their emotions. It would be hilarious.

Eagle bowled PDW at the 1997 PBA Florida Open.  The match is on YouTube.
