Props go out to Chris Johnson
« on: October 30, 2003, 08:56:28 AM »
4 National stops, 4 checks.  Chris bowled his first regional this year in Texarkana and finished in the top 8.  He got his card a few weeks later and has made a check in every PBA event he's bowled.
CJ has a really strong game and has always been respected as one of the best in Texas but there were always a bunch of jealous people who said he could only bowl on house shots.  Those naysayers are no where to be found now.
Not only is CJ a great talent, but one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.  He always has words of encouragement to others and is willing to help those out who ask his advice.
If you ever get a chance to go to a PBA stop, watch some of the things this guy can do with a ball.  You'll be impressed.
There is an article about CJ leading Rookie of the Year on the PBA site today and I was a little worried that it may have been a jinx.  I guess not, he made the top 64.

A great job out to him. I was just wondering where Tim Mack was at?

Glad to see CJ in the top 64 again. A few years ago I had wondered about him as well, but over the last two years had felt he made quantum leaps in his versatlilty. Him making the 64 on pattern B is no surprise to me. We bowled on this pattern in Killeen and despite the heat he ate it up in qualifying. I think the Dallas bowlers can be proud to be represented by CJ out there and DJ Archer has done pretty well this year also.

I saw Chris bowl last week at the Miller High Life Open.  From what I saw, he's got game and a good head on his shoulders.  That is a combination that should take him a long way in the PBA.

Check out the PBA website.  Chris is being featured today (10/31).  I also notice that he is currently in 35th in points.

(On edit - oops - sorry, Hose - you mentioned the PBA website feature - I guess I didn't read your post carefully enough the first time - my bad)

I got a chance to see CJ at the Miller Open when he led the PTQ and bowled well in the early rounds.  Unfortunately, he drew Tommy Jones as his first opponent in match play and they bowled on a terrible pair.  I seem to remember only 2 200+ games during their match. I also think their was a 160 to 147 game in that set.  Meanwhile the pair I was working for match play had WRW average 242 in loosing to Tim Mack.  Only games WRW won were when he shot 279 and 300.

I did get to say hi to Mike Edwards for you when he was crossing during his squad.  I hope his uncontrollable laughter wasn't the cause of his missing the cut.

Though I've never seen him bowl - on tv or in person - I've read the accolades here and pba.com. So I made him one of my fantasy picks for the week, and he might be one of my mainstays along with Delutz and Angelo. I hope he makes the show this week.

I see he didn't make match play but still got a check and some points.

Still good bowling.
