Strange Thing Happened
« on: August 02, 2006, 01:26:36 PM »
Had my Elite P43 and One's grips replaced yesterday. Same grips as before, only I went oval side up this time on the One (P43 had them oval up before). Threw 5 practice games after I had them put in and both balls were rolling over the holes. I've never rolled over my holes before. Was pretty alarming to hear that noise.

Nothing in my approach/release changed. Armswing, release, all the same. I was baffled.

At first I had black grips in the One, and told the Proshop guy I didn't like them because I couldn't see my ball's rotation (and since I don't focus on my release in league, I used my grips/slug rotation to guage if I over turned my hand). It looked like it was just a solid object hovering down the lane. The grips were in mint condition because I rarely use it.

Somehow I got the Elite to roll like before today in practice again(and I have NO clue what I was doing different), but the One, no matter what I do (finger adjustments, anything) it goes right over the holes(and still hooks like crazy).

The original black grips with the lift side up caused me problems on occasion when I got a little bit of oil on my fingers and was dropping off my hand into the gutter. (about 1 in 20 shots) Could this be the cause? The grips never fit right (they have a hard rubber feel to them) and I love the arc of the Elite over the long snap of the One, so I never bothered dealing with the grip problem.

Both have the same size grips and the One was drilled off of my Elite. I dropped the One in the gutter today again, once. It just fell off my hand. I bowled 6 games and threw 2 with the One. Keep in mind I have a very relaxed grip with a free armswing, if it helps.

Sorry for the long post, hard to explain the details. Anyone ever experience this?

something similar happened to me, my Combat Zone Tracer #2 rolls over the finger holes at one house, but not any other house.

just plain odd.
