How much do sponsors pay the pro's?
« on: August 01, 2006, 11:31:03 PM »
For instance, how much does Storm pay PDW and what incentives does he get? What about TJ and Ebonite? Voss and Elite?

I'm just wondering exactly what these guys get from the ball companies that sponsor them. We always hear about "staffers" but I've never seen what the actual figures are. Anyone know?

Barnes just signed with Columbia for $1M over 8 years, probably the highest-paid contract for a bowler ever.

Ignoring the money and free equipment, being on staff has the tremendous advantage of being able to work with a rep week-in and week-out.  You have someone who knows your game, knows how the lanes transition, and is able to watch others in practice and competition to see how others are playing and adjusting.  You have someone that is extremely familiar with the equipment and can make recommendations based on all of the above factors.

if tj and allen get that much, i have a hard time kelly would or could get anywhere near that... dont get me wrong she is good, but the last 2 players of the year are at 70-80k and she, is at 60k for basically making it through trials, i otta call bs on that, and if its true, than tj is getting WAY more than that

And as the most successful bowler on tour for the last two years years, he seems to be worth every penny.  He's very recognizable to bowlers, he throws the big hook with almost no effort, and he's very competitive.

you can't judge ability with money when you talk about endorsement money.  it is all about the exposure, name dropping and the such.  while ability is a good "judge", Kelly will be talked about more and we will be bombarded with her "first tournament", "first cut", etc....  That alone is worth a ton because every time you see her, you will see the sponsor's name.  She just won't have to be all that successful.

Haha Yeah I bet you Ebonites made ALOT of money by him throwing the One with a big  hook AND winning with it too.

Also - Kelly's been on staff with Ebonite for years. They're probably finally happy to have opportunities to use her for promotion!!!

Basically what was said above -- performance doesn't matter diddle-poo in the world of endorsements. It's all about what the story is, and the story here is that Kulick will be the first woman to win an exemption.

Take a look at Danica Patrick in IRL racing. She's never won a race but she makes more in personal endorsements than anyone else in the sport. And if you go to NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been mired in a two-and-a-half-year slump, but he gets tons more money than anyone in the game save for perhaps Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. And I bet he still makes more than any of those guys.
