Best Sport Condition ball..
« on: June 18, 2003, 08:11:40 AM »
What is the best ball to play a long oil sport condition? Right now I am thinking about getting a Silver Streak Particle or an EZ Money. How would these two match up on that condition? A little about myself: High tracker..18-20mph and about 450-500rpm..Currently on this condition I am using an El Nino and slowing the ball down to about 15-16mph..this works fine but it takes me out of my comfort zone. I want a ball that I will be able to use on this condition without having to be out of my comfort zone. Any suggestions on a good ball that plays well on long oil sport condition patterns? Thanks in Advance!

Mike

There are no certain balls for the sport shot.  There are however some good drillings that you can use to even out and control a big hooking reaction on a sport shot.  I've played a longer sport shot similar to the one you are mentioning and although your rev rate is quite higher than mine your best bet would be to take a low-medium load particle ball or a very low RG non pearlized strong resin ball in it's normal box condition and a low-medium topweight and drill it 3 3/8ths x 0 with the C.G on the PAP and a weighthole through it.  This will get the ball revving midlane and give you a continuous movement.

There is no "magic" ball for a sport condition.  You can use just about anything depending you want.  It really depends on the sport shot pattern.  For the Sport Challenge in Knoxville, I used my Silver Streak Particle, playing i20 to about 8, shot 397 for the 2 games.  At a local tournament that used a 33 ft sport shot, I used my RotoGrip Retro Blue, playing 17 to 7, shot 748 for 4(went brain dead in 3rd and shot 129 ).  The SSP is drilled with the pin just to the tight of the ring finger and the CG in the palm.  The retro is drill with the CG under the ring finger and the CG kick out about 15 degrees.  Two totally different layout and balls, yet they were both usable on the a sport shot.

Well there is one ball that was made for the sport condition. The Columbia 300 Sport Ball.. But, its only good if you play an outside line.

After my last few performances in the Sport Condition I would say the most important ball for the condition is your spare ball.  Make sure that is working.  I'm sure several on this board would agree.

But that isn't what you were looking for.  Any ball in which you can play inside, where the dryer boards usually reside, would be good.  A good man told me that you can't really attack strikes on the sport condition, that the sport condition game is mainly damage control.  Hit close enough to your intended target as to leave spares you can hit, and on occasion you will get on a roll and hit some strikes.  That being said, pick a ball in which you are comfortable playing inside and do the best you can.

I agree that there is no magic ball, nothing that will make you attack the strikes on a sport condition.  Go with comfort as much as you can and be very patient.
