Turbo 2 n 1 switch grips
« on: December 22, 2009, 01:28:07 PM »
So after this weekend of bowling several games, then taking a break then bowling some more, and doing the same last nite... I've been seriously considering Switch grips cuz my thumb swells up like a mofo....

I'd like to hear from people who have gone to switch grips

Ive got switch grip and I absolutely love it
all of my equipment feels exactly the same now
where as before I could always feel that slight difference
I have zero issues with them they feel great and work great also

The switch grip system has improved but has a history of failures, but if carefully installed they tend to hold up extremely well.

The Vise system is more complicated, takes longer to install and has some draw backs but is much less likely to fail, but it comes at a cost.

Both systems provide a great luxury though.

Well i did talk to my pro-shop owner, and I asked which is better the Vise-IT or the turbo 2n1 switch grips and he said the 2n1's was alot better and thats what he uses in all his stuff.

He stated that the Vise-it's can be stuck if turned too far to lock in???  idk

and I do remember last yr when i asked about them, and he said sometimes the "tits" on the grips can break but he said "they" 2n1 were in the process of fixing that...

Turbo is in the 3rd generation of the Switch Grip. The newest version has been revamped using a new plastic formula and they are far more durable than the first 2 series of inserts.

Yeah the latest "switch grip" products are used with a stronger material and do not break,
I have not seen anyone break the newest design

I've never had a Vise-IT get stuck, I've never had one break, and I've only seen one ever break in person, and that was because the guy had just done the ball that day and got busy and forgot to glue it properly!  I like the Vise IT system much better than I liked the Turbo Switch Grip (which I had break several times, and it never felt quite as secure in the ball as the Vise IT)

I've converted to Turbo 2n1 since August & love it.  I haven't had any parts break or wear out and the benefits of having the same fit & feel in every ball I've converted is a godsend.  I'm gradually going back to my older equipment and having them retrofitted with the outer sleeve and my pro shop driller only charges me $12 for the installation & drilling.  If you go ahead with converting your equipment to the interchangeable thumb inserts, have your shop make 2 inserts one that fits your thumb size when it swells up for humdity, etc. and one for when your thumb shrinks a bit in size.

Haven't tried the VISE system, but it looks real good.  My pro shop only carries the Turbo system so I go with what they have.  I think Lane1 also offers the Grip-Loc system and that looks like another excellent option.  I just don't know how easy it would be to find a pro shop who sells & installs their system.

I really wanted to use the vise IT system as I knew it was a better system but my pro-shop did not have them and didnt plan on getting them for about 6 months till people nagged him to carry it.

so i went with the 2n1 turbo system BUT I insisted on the third generation and i have never had a problem with it.

both have their pros and cons

talk to your choice in pro-shop that you have faith in and see what they carry. really I feel both systems now are very very good and I think it would be a NIGHTMARE if I had to get my thumb drilled in each slug of my bowling balls! (im very picky especially when it comes to bevel and where my tape is.

I just talked with a guy at league last night who has the 3rd generation Turbo Switches. He actually lost one in the machine last week at league. He figured that he loses one every 125ish games on average.

then he might be having them installed wrong or something

the newest generation of the switch grip has zero issues
very very very good system

El Taco:

so was the part your friend lost the inner sleeve with the slug or is it the entire outer sleeve & inner sleeve?  The inner sleeve should click & lock into the sleeve if it's installed properly.

Do the new Inner sleeves fit in older outer sleeves? Or will I need to replace the outer sleeves?
