Can't say I sandbagged
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:48:14 PM »
I've always been told to bowl the best I could to open the season and not worry about setting to high an average, hope they are right. Opened with a 279-232-268 for a 779 or a whoppping 259 average. Left a weak 10 pin in the 4th frame in the first game and started with the front seven in the third, before leaving a smash 9 pin. The league format is 40 points, with handicap 75% from 230, so anything above 230 is free pins which greatly helped the team tonight, but is likely to cost us some, if I shoot anything less than 650 in the upcoming weeks, unless I get lucky with my opponents. Going to be weird to see a 259 average on the sheet next week.

have some fun trying to keep that average up. I did that for summer, starting off with a huge series and then didn't bowl another one til last week(position week).

I did something similar in this past winter league.  To start, I shot 678 for a 226 average in the league.  That was just a good day for that league since it's usually second shift which is always dry and/or carrydown.  I finished with 201 due to a lot of bad weeks which I can only blame myself for the most part(bad ball choice), but there were a few weeks where they hadn't oiled since a league the night before.  So about 3-4 times that season I had to bowl on lanes that had a league, moonlight open bowling with house balls, sat for 9 hours, then another league.  Very frustrating and I'm considering not doing that league this year because of that and also because those lanes wear balls out about twice as fast as a good center does.

A buddy of mine set a 281 average with an 843 the first night he subbed in one league here.  It's the association record.  He didn't get asked back for a while.

about 10 years ago I went 279 - 267 - 222 / 768  while running back and forth to the shop drilling balls for customers. Come next week i find out we lost 5 points because i had a handicap of -43.  Funny thing is I bookended the league as on championship / sweeper night i went 240-259-279 / 768.  BTW we won the league due to winning the 3rd game by 8 pins
