Bowler shoots 300 after 2 weeks of bowling
« on: February 06, 2010, 08:41:58 AM »
This is amazing to me. One of young guns in the area who grew up in the bowling alley hurt is bicep so he started bowling left handed. After 2 weeks he shoots 300/779.

Not easy to do.  Congratulate him for me.

well, if he has good athletic ability and understands the game, this really shouldn't be to difficult. I came close a few times when I was bowling lefty, just never finished the deal. On todays conditions, all the easier, but still impressive.

But it's not "2 weeks of bowling"  If he grew up in a bowling alley, he has bowled more games by now than most of us will bowl in a lifetime.  Like Rev said, if he has a decent amount of athletic ability it shouldn't be too tough.  Chris Barnes bowls better left handed than I EVER will righty.  I used to bowl with a guy who got up to around 220 right handed, decided it was too "easy" so he switched to lefty...he was at 200 in under a month.  Some people just have the gift.  Good for him.

I don't know about Barnes being better than you left-handed.  Didn't they show some lefty shots during the trick shot competitions over the last few years?  I remember quite a few pro bowlers being, frankly, hopeless with the wrong hand.  Put the ball in the other hand and they look like they've never even heard of the sport.

Yes, some were hopeless.  But, IIRC, Barnes was the one to start the left handed shots when it was his turn, and he's darn good at it.  Not nearly as good left as he is right, but way better than a lot of natural lefties.

The problem I see in this post is that the OP said what he's said and has left it for us to speculate.  Not good.  I think those that have been around here plenty long know well enough that people will eventually come here and bring this topic down with posts about how easy it is to do.

With that, I would be curious as to how well the guy does bowling lefty.  Rev-O is correct though.....if you've got talent, it can be done.  But there's a big difference between a bowler looking like a idiot up on the lanes and throwing a 300 versus one looking poised and with a very good form and doing the same thing.

Good example in my area is a pro's brother that bowls in my league.  League is here....and you can see the 2 averages.

Point is I talked with him a couple months ago and asked if he was a natural left hander to which he replied no.  But I'll tell you this...you would not have known.  He had just as good form lefty as he did righty and I could easily see him throwing a 300 lefty.

After 3 weeks on Tuesday night he is avg 212. 1 week on Friday avg 259. Started out using an alley ball, somebody gave him a blue hammer and he drilled up a natural. At first he was missing spares but has improved so fast it is hard to believe. The 300 every ball was flush and he shot 779 after only bowling 3 weeks with a urethane ball. Hard to downplay that IMO.
