blue dot question
« on: January 30, 2010, 03:34:21 AM »
alright, i am looking to move down to 15 lbs for my plastic ball.  i have had a blue dot at 16 lbs for a very long time.  i seem to remember that the new blue dots are basically white dots that cost $10 more.  if so, the blue dot isn't worth replacing with another blue dot i would guess.  would that be a pretty accurate guess?
thanks!!

AFAIK the current Blue Dots are just the same as the White Dots, they just run under the old label but are "only" in the 78-80 hardness rangm like any other polyester ball. IMHO, save the money.

Harder pieces are the Ice Storm (which is also a bit more brittle than normal polyester), and many clear balls tend to be quite hard (84-86 hardness, e .g. Lanemaster's Arrow, discontinued, though), too. YOu might also get your hand on an antique NIB rubber ball on ebay. Dead straight, and horror for the pro shop...

lol @ the horror...i have heard as much.  the ice storm i have been eyeing as a possibility.  brittle or not, my original blue dot lasted 20 yrs for me, and cracked because i had left it in my car one winter between league nites..wont do that again.  my current blue dot is in pretty good shape outside of the usual wear, after about 4 or 5 yrs.

thanks for the info!
