Interesting day of bowling yesterday...
« on: February 12, 2006, 05:27:34 AM »
So I go over to Hudson, WI yesterday for the 12 game tourney for the 3rd straight year and attempted to bowl. After 3 shots in practice, I was inside 3rd arrow throwing a very weakly drilled Vapor Zone (very similar to a Rico drilling), playing 15 out to 5 (remember, lefties dont play inside 12 ). Playing left of that went high and taking hand out and throwing harder seemed to not carry the corners.
Tourney runs where you bowl a 3 game set on one pair, then skip 2 pair, bowl 3 more, skip, etc. Was not comfortable yet thinking I had no mistake left and too far wide was a washout (even 3 off the left on one shot) so I go 140 out the gates with 5 splits and a whiff 7 pin. finally loosen up and go 20x-22x the next 2.
Then we change pairs. Watching the guys the 10th and noticed 5 of the 7 were left handed and each playing a different area of the lane (straight up 5, straight up 10, little 10-5 swing, little more inside swing and inbetween for the 5th) all throwing dull equipment and spraying worse than I. Once we started (no practice) jumped 10 right with my Zone Classic and fired it 22 out to 5 and came in light. Moved 3 left and used same breakpoint on other lane, went high. Same move on right lane flush, moved 3 in on left lane, flush. Spent the next 2 1/2 games play between 4th-5th arrow chucking to the gutter it seemed like and trying to carry, ended up shooting around 630 for the 3.
After the break (got to eat while they reoiled fresh), started up again trying my Nemesis 3rd arrow on fresh out to 5 instead of a Vapor and it seemed to carry better but was a little more jumpy if it hit dry too early (Nemesis at 1000 with  polish and Vapor Zone just at 1000 abralon). Ended up have a carry contest with my right hand and went 190-195-190. Moved to the lefty burn out and tried my Rampage which jumped way too early from out 4th arrow but was a washout inside of that and back to the Zone 4th-5th arrow again. After going 185-190 decided for game 12 Zone on the left 5th arrow, Vapor on the right 4th arrow and would go until I missed. Front 6, wrap 7, whiff, then pulled out old blue to finish the night (playing up 8 with speed and crushing the hole). Shot 230 the last game and of course won $0 from the tournament, but 6 of the 12 card games we had going.
All in all it was an experience, first year I finished 3rd, last year finished 12th, this year....30th. Lanes have played different every year but overall a very fun time. Anybody on here from the area should go bowl it next year, usually the 2nd weekend of Feb. I guess the moral of the story is Yes lefties sometimes have to play inside and dont always have the great shot in a tournament. . Now time to go ice my thumb and get back to work....
