Warm Up
« on: August 16, 2004, 05:23:59 PM »
I don't know about the rest of you, but when I come to league, and I throw my first practice ball, it feels almost as if I havent bowled in months. It usually takes about 8-10 balls to get fully streched and ready?

I know some people that can get there ball and just go, no strechthing or anything..

Am I the only one that needs about 8 practice balls to get streched?

(I do some pre-streching prior to bowling, but I dont think it really does much)

I used to be one of those people that could go without stretching. But now that I'm 33, I need to stretch the legs and arms a good 5 minutes before bowling. And I usually take 3-4 shots before I feel loose enough for scoring. Sometimes I feel like in my head that if I don't throw a strike during warm up, psychologically it means it will be a good night for me as I have to keep my head in the game...

I'm with you on this one channel. I go in, do all my stretches, and I still feel very still on my first ball. It either goes really slow or slides into the right gutter hahaha. I start feeling comfortable around the 4th or 5th ball I throw. Thank god for warmup practice!

damn right, I'm 24, but it takes me a good half a game before I throw right, its like I forgot how to throw the ball.

I the same. I get to the center early and get my stuff all out, grab a ball and swing it in my arm for a bit ot try to loosen my arm up, stretch my legs a bit and take a few slides on the approach to get used to the feel. All will feel good, then turn the lights on and the first 2-3 balls in practice feel like I never did anything the last 20 mintes getting ready. After about 5-6 balls though I am good, and can try to line up and shoot a spare or 2.

I have to pedal my stationary bike for a good 20 minutes before leaving to go bowl, then stretch at the lanes for another 5 minutes.

I stretch all the time at home, especially before bowling, and try to get to the center early to stretch some more.  I also hold the ball and swing it back and forth a few times before I throw it.  Nevertheless, I still feel as if I'm 80 years old when I throw that first shot, at about half speed.  I almost always throw a gutter ball in practice.  It takes me a good six shots to get my armswing and hips loose.

Hey Mojo!  Good to see you posting again.

I am a practice nut, but I have been lucky where it doesn't take me long to get warmed up.  Typically I'm ready to go right away, just need a few balls to get a read on the lanes.  I bowl better cold, and usually get worse by the second game before the third game comeback.  I think its because I focus on nothing but bowling game 1, then spend too much time dwelling on game 1 during game 2.  By game 3, Im back to focusing on finishing strong

I stretch before i bowl get the back and arms and legs loose and still the first ball sucks.  But if i go bowl in a tournament that you only get 2 balls per lane i do the same stretching and i am ready to go only after one omg my arms gonna fall off ball. I am weird

Ninety percent of the time I get to league when practice is just finishing. Lucky I don't need the warm up time .. guess it comes from the fact that I bowl (just about) every day. I do move to three different Centers and the shot is different .. but experience tells me which ball will work best in each house .. I ready to go when I get on the ally!

I stretch a bunch before bowling, throw a couple of "warmup shots", and stretch some more.
Unfortunately, even with the stretching, it's now taking me almost a half game before I'm loose.

I stretch before I bowl, and it takes me about 2 shots to feel ready.

there is this 1 league i bowl and its horribly early in the morning like 9 and i usually wake up around 11:30 cause im up tell 3:00 every night in the summer and i can't break my routine no matter what time i have to wake up, and im usually half a sleep when i drag my self to the ally and the first 5 practice shots are slow and are not even close to the pocket and once in a wile i throw one in the gutter and it jsut doesn't feel right at all, I do about the same in this morning league as other later leagues.

fishnic that kinda sounds like me.

I start bowling in practice and nothing feels right. I wasnt sure if I was the only person who went through all this, now I know I'm not.

thanks to all of you..
