Right Ball for the Right Lane Conditions
« on: January 10, 2007, 01:13:35 PM »
Looking for a good ball for really oily lanes and one for dry lanes. I'm bowling with an Ultimate Inferno and Icon right now. Any suggestions??? I'm a 175-180 average bowler looking to improve my arsenal.

Thanks

one for oily lanes you should looks for a ball that has a duller surface and for dry lanes you want a ball that has a shinier surface. any particular company your looking at?

A couple of the least expensive balls for SERIOUS oil are the new Brunswick Mammoth and the Visionary Granite Gargoyle. This are stpes up from the Ultimate Inferno which was designed to be a heavy oil ball. Your rev rate probably is not high enough to use it that way. The above two balls are full notch stronger and appropriately, need a LOT more oil to be effective.

Define "DRY". We have several broad definitions and a lot of the use of a "dry" lane ball depends on the bowler's ball speed and rev rate ratio.

What balls have you tried and how have they reacted?
That will give us a basis for deciding how weak or mild a ball you need.

Thanks for the ball suggestions for oily lanes. Right now I'm using my Columbia Icon when the lanes begin to break down. Sometimes my league comes in right after another league and the house doesn't have time to oil the lanes so my Icon has a tendency to take off after the first game. I don't have a lot of ball speed and I don't know my rev ratio. Any ideas?

Thank you

The Brunswick Power Groove Dry/R and the Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle are good dry lane balls.  I have both and prefer the Slate Blue, but it is also more expensive.  --  JohnP

couple good balls to look at.

dry : hammer vibe, brunswick punisher, ebonite ice/ whirlwind, track Heat, storm supersport pearl.

Heavier Oil : Hammer Hawgzilla/No Mercy, ebonite infinite one, brunswick mammoth, storm special Agent, and columbia Action Attack.

Those would be some of the balls I would look into.
