I know this is the misc. bowl related forum, but I think most bowlers know who the Hall of Famer Ernie Banks, aka Mr. Cub, is. He'da been 84 next week. My favorite Cub of all time. My daughter wears his #14 because she became of fan of him thru her pop, me. I wore his # when I still played adult fast pitch league ball.
He'll be missed.

I grew up a Sox fan but always likes Mr. Cub. Always showed class and was a gentleman. None of this staring at your ball or making a show of hitting a home run. Off to a field of dreams to "play two today".

Update: His family came out & said it was a heart attack.
There's talk that they might pick 1 day every year & call it Ernie Banks Day at Wrigley. Either they always "play 2" or all Cubs (& opponents if they wish) wear #14 jersey's were 2 options discussed. That would be pretty cool.

As a lifelong Giants fan, I will miss Ernie. He was the personification of class like Stan Musial. Banks played baseball because he loved the game. You never saw Ernie flip a bat after hitting a home run or do anything to show up the other team. Ernie, RIP and thanks for the memories.

Playing a double header wearing #14 jersey's would be an appropriate tribute to the greatest Cub of all time.

The doubleheader idea sounds great. Since MLB teams don't schedule doubleheaders any more, they could either invite a couple of minor league or college teams to play the other part of the doubleheader.

I second what many on here have said! He was the personification of class and truly loved the game! Being a Braves fan I do remember him hitting #500 off of Pat Jarvis of the Braves.

I was thrilled to get his autograph at a signing in Des Moines sometime in the mid 80's. Got his and Duke Snider's. Had that Mr. Banks' ball out a few days ago after hearing of his passing. RIP Ernie, may you eternally play 2!

They occasionally do day-night doubleheaders, so they can get double the income from ticket sales. I used to love the traditional Sunday afternoon DH's. Miss those days.

Yeah, he's up there playing 2, Santo's clicking his heels, all the former greats having a big all star game & my dad in the box seats taking in all of the games w/a never ending ice cold beer...
