Ethical question...
« on: March 23, 2008, 05:51:52 PM »
Say your a scratch bowler, so you receive absolutely zero benifit from sandbagging.  You bowl in a league that has been dominated by true sandbaggers (multiple teams who have 220+ tourny averages and 180 league averages, and some are league officers, so there is no recourse)

Your team, is out of the hunt for the roll off due to them averaging 230+ only on the nights when they bowl your team.  The last night of league prior to the roll off, it comes to your attention that if you open in the 10th frame of the last game allowing your opponet that night to win the last game, they knock the sandbaggers out of the roll off.  You receive no benifit from missing the spare, but you deny the sandbaggers the reward for cheating.  What do you do?

Do your best (an honest effort to finish this league), and find another league.  They aren't worth lowering yourself to their level - Period.

Hypocrit or not, if I hold the deciding vote between "giving" the win to a team that's gotten where they are fair and square or rewarding a bunch of cheaters based on some "moral high ground", I'll dump it every time so those who I feel truly deserve it will be rewarded (assuming our team has nothing to gain/lose in the process). I'd be willing to bet there'll be more handshakes and kudos come my way from other teams for "giving those baggers what they deserved" and I wouldn't hear a single person tell me "I'm disappointed you lowered yourself to their level, you should have picked up that 5 pin and let the sandbaggers have all our money".

But that's just me...
