Finding a hybrid & dry lane/spare ball to fill arsenal
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:11:06 PM »
I'm currently carrying a 900 Global Freight Train, and Dirty Look along with a beat up Blue Dot spare ball in my bag to leagues. I'm looking to add a hybrid to bridge the gap between my Freight Train and Dirty Look and a new multi-purpose dry/spare ball. I was looking at the Storm Polar/Ice Hybrid as my new spare ball and I've been looking at the new 900 Global Network, Storm IQ Fusion, and Brunswick Mastermind Genius. I'm kinda interested in the Genius since I haven't thrown a Brunswick ball since the Scorchin' and I've been hearing good things so far. So many choices in an over saturated ball market these days.

One of the things about the 900 Global Network is that it isn't a hybrid.  It has a pearl cover that can handle medium-heavy volumes.

I think that you're generally on the right track with mentioning the Fusion and the Mastermind Genius.  They both seem to cover similar amounts of area though the Fusion may be a bit smoother overall.

One other option to consider for a hybrid is the new Roto Grip Asylum.  That hybrid seems to be a little more angular.  It would be closer to the Genius in terms of backend reaction.

another really good hybrid is the new Columbia Disorder, ball has the Oath and Vow covers mixed with the Resurgence core.

For dry lanes and spares look at either the re introduced Blue Hammer, or Super Natural.  Lot of pretty good bowlers are switching from plastic to urethane for spare balls.

I recently bought a Storm MIX red/silver ball and it is working great for me even though it isn't a hybrid. I looked at the Storm Polar Ice and felt this MIX would better fit my style and needs better and it has.

For the hybrid take a look at the Radical Grease Monkey. Great performance at a great price.
