the good ones I have come across are parker bohn III, brad angelo, marshall holman, carmen salvino (the nicest guy on earth), chris barnes, brian kretzer and brian himmler, and some others were very very nice.
a couple of pros that came off as jerks to me could be walter ray (from what i've heard) ryan shafer (had an incident with him at last years us open) and george branham III (i met him when i was 12, bowling a junior pro am and he wouldnt sign ANY of the kids autographs)

last year and find that he is uncomfortable being the center
of attention and around crowds. Seem more of a loner, even
during practice at LI, NY he was several pairs off by himself
while the others practiced in groups.
Mike DeVaney one of the good guys, so many to list. Voss
a crowd pleaser, Petraglia great with the younger set.
Kent, a pleasure to bowl with and talk to. Quite accomodating.
Did not find too many that could not be approached. Most are
just bowling alley rats who remember their roots.

I bowled with a lot of great guys during the Quaker State Pro Am at Forum Bowl in Grand Prarie, Texas. I hated to see that tourney go. I got to see 2 live finals there (one in Forum and one at a high school gym. That was different).
So, I have yet to put anyone on my "jerk" list. Except DJ Archer. I grew up with him (bowling with him since I was 2) and he has always been a jerk... hahaha. j/k

In baseball, basketball, tennis, or any other sport, the players are able to cool off after a match/game in the locker room, completely away from the fans. When you're competing at that high of a level, some people have to put themselves into a "zone" to concentrate and be the best they can be. Everybody is different, however.
This ex-pro that I spoke with told me how it would generally take him at least 30 minutes to come down and out of the mind set he was in while bowling. The difference with bowling is, the pros can come right out of a match after losing by a pin or two, turn around, and somebody is in his/her face with something to sign or whatnot.
So it's usually not that they are jerks, but rather they need a "digestion" period after their big meal (match). Leave it to me to use a food analogy!
Now some people, like Brian Voss for instance, can interact with a crowd while they are bowling, and might not need that wind down time after a match. Everybody is different. If you want to deem somebody a jerk or a nice guy, it might be more fair to wait an hour, then try to talk to them to see what they are like. Remember, they are in the middle of paying their bills usually when you see them. Their performance dictates whehter their electric bill gets paid this month.

The most memorable pro I met was Earl Anthony. In the early 80's, in my hometown, a pro-shop had him stop by for a visit while he was in Michigan bowling at a nearby tournament. He was doing promo work for Ebonite. It would be hard to imagine a better ambassador for a sport then him. He was gracious, funny, helpful, and so modest. I left there totally impressed with him.
Pro bowlers are like any one of us, some nice, some jerks. I feel I have been fortunate to meet some of the nice ones.

How many of you have had a chance to really interact with the stars of Golf, Baseball, Football, you name it. Sometimes we just don’t know how lucky we have it.
There are a lot of great guys out there but you need to add Michael Haugen Jr to your list.

Walter Ray was quiet but very nice. He is not a very outspoken personality, that is just his way. Parker Bohn, Mika, Amletto, Wiseman & Couch all nice guys, very personable.
I found PDW to be a bit frosty like he was doing you a favor being there and signing autographs, but not so much as rude just a little aloof. Himmler was kind of the same but ok.

Two guys who are opp ends of the spectrum but have always been great to me. Tommy DeLutz is a total professional. He is super nice, offers to help if you ask for anything and is very down to earth.
Brian "Chief" Himmler reminds me of just one of the guys. He is a ball buster who is fun to hang around and is super nice to everyone. He is a bit on the quiet side to the public. I believe its his blue-collar attitude that sticks out and is all aces in my book. Rock, he is fun to sit down with over a couple of beers and watch sportcenter. In Canadagiua him a bunch of the guys went to MaGregors, where I was consoling a bad day and they were all a ball of fun.
