Title: Sales Tax on Bowling and Shoe Rental???
Post by: pnj1967 on August 25, 2008, 05:12:54 AM

Seen where a couple of centers (both owned by same people) are now charging tax on bowling and shoe rental.

 Any one else seen this?

Depends upon which state you live in/bowl in as to whether or not they can charge sales tax on certain things. Some states make you pay sales tax on labor, for example, while other states do not.

Here in Florida we do not pay tax on food purchased at the grocery store that we are going to cook ourselves, but when you go to a restaurant and buy food, you have to pay sales tax on it. One could say bowling and shoe rental are services and in your state services are sales taxable. The fact that they are now adding it in only points out the fact that they always included the tax in the price of the bowling and shoe rental.

Most places of business are attempting to find many little items to use as surcharges, like the airlines charging you for checking bags, food etc.

I think most states have sales tax on rentals (which all bowling amounts to is a rental) most alleys just bury it in their posted price

Yep!  I think it depends on the states.  Most people do not know about the taxing.    It's rolled into the total.
