The following I saved from a previous post ( I think it was by Charlest but if not, thanks to whoever posted it) :

Scotch Brite Grits

Don't feel bad. What you did was excellent. Here's what I saved in my files when this subject was discussed in the recent past:
3M Scotch Brite:

7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - 1200-1500 grit
7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - 1000 grit.
7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - 320 grit
6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand - 240 grit
7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad - 150 grit
Green Scotch Brite is available EVERYWHERE. It's 600 grit.

The Blue pad is a recent discovery. I've found it on pot scrubbers, saying it will not scratch teflon and non-stick finishes. So 800 is a good guess for its grit level.

MI_2_AZ,

Here's my latest version (minor change):

3M Scotch Brite:

7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing  - (1000) 1200-1500 grit
7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand      - (600-800) 1000 grit.
6448 - Green (?), called Light Duty Hand Pad   - (600) 600 grit
7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - (320-400) 320 grit
6444 - Brown pad,  called Extra Duty Hand      - (280-320) 240 grit
7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad        (180-220) 150 grit
7440 - Tan pad, called Heavy Duty Hand Pad     - (120-150) 60(?)
Green Scotch Brite is available EVERYWHERE. It's 600 grit.
Blue Scotch-Brite is considered to be about 800 grit.
(The value inside the parentheses is directly from 3M.)

3M Chart
Less Aggressive  -------->  More Aggressive
7445 7448 6448 7447 6444 7446 7440
Finer Finish     -------->  Point Coarser Finish

yes, just like sandpaper.

it's hard to so evenly or thoroughly by hand, but you can use it to take the polish off, lightly and to haze the ball.

I'd carry a green one which is 600 and a light grey one, which is about 1000 grit.

If you are under YABA, then you are under the equivalent of the ABC; the rules are similar, if not identical. You are NOT allowed to modify the surface of a ball once competition has begun. It is legal to modify your balls during practice but not once scoring has begun.
