Scotch-Brite used to be better for fine tuning the surfaces of particle balls. Something to do with what material was used in the particles. Particles used today seem sturdier. Don't know this for a fact, though.
Another advantage with Scotch-Brite pads is that they don't affect the beveling of finger and thumb holes as much as plain sandpaper does.
