Sean Rash . . um, wow
« on: December 10, 2006, 04:18:46 AM »
He throws one of the best balls I've ever seen in my life, but he's being a SUPER prick right now.  Being from Kansas and having bowled against him a few times in juniors and seeing him shoot back to back 800's in the state tournament last year, I was naturally a fan, but the stuff he's doing on tv right now is really turning me off.  Yelling at the fans after beating Danny about "Who's your hometown hero now?" (or whatever he said), and then when Parker just playfully threw the towel at him, he just arrogantly flipped it up in the air and sauntered back to his chair.  He's a great bowler and he'll win plenty of tournaments, but I hope he grows up so I can start rooting for him again.

P.S., the Total is a BEAST . .

there ain't nothin wrong with being cocky. if you can back it up. this kid has game. no doubt about it. good bowling kid! i have coached kids for many years. most of the time a outburst like that is a responce to something that has been said to them. no doubt the crowd was behind danny, as it should have been. at least his emotion is real. some of the other pros look kinda silly with this fake emotion during intros. no doubt the tour encourages anything to add a little excitement to the tv show. to take danny out in front of the hometown crowd had to be tough. it would have been nice for danny to win his hometown stop.

While I think Sean Rash is one of the best bowlers I've ever seen throw the ball, he is known for being a bonehead at times.  Some people just react before thinking in their actions and that was just an example of some of the stuff he said today.  I don't know him personally, but I'm sure he is a nice guy.  Through crossing at a few collegiate tournaments here and there, I can say that he has a love him or hate him reputation amongst his peers.  To each its own, takes nothing away from hoe good he bowled today.

When you're relatively a no namer and have the chance to come on strong and win a title, you should let your ball do the talking. Sure, he carried and scored very well and he has one of the most powerful shots in the PBA, but Danny has more class in his pinky than Rash will ever know. There seems to be a glut of these newer smack talkers that dont impress me with their lips. And PDW should be a better role model, too. But for Rash, you don't walk into a match with the hometown favorite who's had such a string of bad luck and injuries, and start mouthing off. Total lack of class. Period. I'd rather watch Danny any day of the week.

Dont get me wrong... but the only person bowling on todays show was PBIII.  While Rash out scored everyone else he also sprayed the ball the most and simply matched up better than everyone else. Its a shame that the best bowler did not win. And Rash knows it and played off of it.
--------------------

PBIII made poor ball change choices and didn't adjust well. Rash outbowled everyone today with power and accuracy, PBIII had neither. Even PBIII noted, at the end, that he should have stayed with the Total Inferno. You don't have to like the guy, and I'm not sure that I do, but I know who the best bowler was today and it was Rash.

I agree 100% with this statement. I know a bowler who has over 30 300's and over 10 800's and he's 18, might be 19 now. He can go into about any house and throw up a 220 average if he wants. On a sport shot he is around a 205 average. He shot a 201 average on sport when he was 16. He also got the house record of 85X when he was only 16.

Some people say he is cocky and whatnot, but I always say that he can bowl and if he can back it up it doesn't bother me.

I try not to get cocky, but sometimes I might get carried away. I was bowling well one day and these parents mentioned something about me getting a little cocky to a friend and I overheard. I appologized and their son, who was on the opposite team, told his parents not to worry about it because my actions at the time matched my game. He told his parents straight up "I hate cocky people, but he can definitly bowl and right now hes showing up and bowling really well and we arent"

Screw being a prick because thats a whack statement, not when people cheer for Pete Weber and what he does. He's a rookie making himself known in his own way and I say let him, now the "Hometown" comment was rude just like when T.O. posed of the dallas star but it is what it is. Pete Weber is the reason for acts like Sean Rash so if you dislike Rash's actions you should dislike Pete's. Right or Wrong ladies and gentlemen?

I guess I'm still trying to figure out who everyone is pointing at that supports Pete Weber and is bashing Rash?  It looks to me like the Weber supporters are backing Rash and the people who think today was a bad day for Rash don't like Weber either.  That is not an argument so don't bring it back up.

poptart... why do I have a hard time believing that he walked into your pro shop and tried to (as you are accusing him) steal an abralon pad?!! He has a ball rep by the name of Rick Benoit that can supply him with all the abralon/scotch pads he needs. Why did he need yours?!?! I don't quite understand that!! Maybe he did, but I am doubtful of it

Unlike Hose, I don't think bowling should try to be an in-your-face, super exciting, WWE fest

I think you'll see more and more of it though.  Like I've said, watching Dave Arnold vs Dale Traber matches would like watching paint dry.

The PBA needs to do or try whatever it can to survive.  Maybe a good fist fight, or a streaker running on the show is what they need.

Drinking provides a beautiful excuse to pursue the one activity that truly gives me pleasure, hooking up with fat, hairy girls.

+1!!! I have watced some of the old shows on ESPN classics and I have a hard time staying focused on the program alot of the time. Everyone is too straight laced and nothing exciting happens. Kind of like watching Golf! I much rahter watch the WWE than golf becasue, anything can happen!

I would love to watch the telecast and in addition to seeing some great bowling, I want to see trash talking, the occasional argument, tempers, chairs being thrown, women getting naked showing their boobs to the bowlers, etc! OK, I am talking out of my butt now! LOL!!!!!!!!

My point, excitment makes ratings alot better! In the long run, we all would benefit from stonger ratings from the PBA and the PBA continuing.

Last I checked Barnes is a WSU alumn...and although he may (from what I hear) do some chirping on the lanes, it would seem he is a little bit more "professional" on television.

Someone missed Chris Barnes when he was first breaking out on tour!  He was known and still remembered by some for having a huge temper and outbursts on the lanes.  On ESPN classic they had a few tourneys where Barnes was new on tour, and they had to squelch out some of his language.

I think Barnes just got older, more mature and mellowed out some once he had a family and kids.  I think he is better for it too.

I wasn't defending Rash's actions, I didn't even see it.  I just know what I saw and heard when I was down there meeting with Mr. Vadakin and Fred Borden, Team USA coach. They strongly encourage their bowlers to have a very brash attitude, one of never thinking you can lose and letting your opponents know it.  That's not limited to the bowler your currently bowling against, its to let potential opponents see it too.  If they are thinking extra hard about beating you to shut you up, their mind is not on bowling, its on you.  If you start getting a lead on them, its very demoralizing.  Ernie Schlagel (sp bad) was a master at this.

Have to agree, he does throw an awesome ball, but I am rather old school. I have never cared for the chest thumping yelling.

Yeah, I could have become a fan, but instead I now think the guy is an idiot.  I'm sure he isn't but all I see is what you see on TV.  Also his ball whoring at the end of the show came off as tacky to me.

Seriously, if I have to hear the "young guns" comments any more, I will vomit.

Here's what a PBA telecast sounds like to me:

Young gun Young gun Young gun Young gun Young gun Young gun Young gun all ten down in the pit all ten down in the pit all ten down in the pit all ten down in the pit all ten down in the pit all ten down in the pit sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success sixty feet to success.

Gospel network?  Nice stereotype there.  Incorrect stereotype, as most are.
