Title: seriously, i wish there was....
Post by: xrayjay on July 10, 2015, 11:14:12 AM
A winter sport league in my area close to the house.

The other night we practiced on the Tokyo pattern - heading up to the stadium this weekend, and I left feeling excited. Basically, I had fun bowling. I only wished that there was a league that doesn't use THS. Maybe Steve Cooks bowling alley has a league, but it's too far from where I live.

When I go home to visit my mom overseas, I always enjoyed open bowling and bowling side action with my friends from youth league and retired pro guys. Their house don't use the THS patterns we use here in the mainland. They rotate patterns every quarterly too.

But, just like many Americans in this PC generation, bowlers state side believe they are entitled to things that don't require much.

This goes back to not allowing house bowlers to get awards if they bowl on a ths. Wanna bowl on a recreational pattern that requires very little skill, then don't expect awards.

Finally starting a Sport Shot league here this winter on Thursday nights...looking forward to seeing how this pans out. Having fun, but sucking, the PBA Experience this summer. About 175 avg. overall. How I avg. 191 on Badger but 155 on Shark, I don't know...lol.

That's how it works. LOL

Some patterns favor a bowling style where others are almost unplayable. That's the real benefit of a Sport shot league. It forces you to change away from your "A" game to succeed.

It's not further for me.  ;D

In Dublin, it's not a "sanctioned" sport league, so there hasn't been any taping done. I think I read somewhere that USBC is changing it's requirements for certifying Sport leagues and the requirements for sending in tapes.

Effective 8-1:  No more tape requirements.  No more extra sanction fee.  No more sport awards.

We did not have a sport league this past season and I missed it.  I always seem to enjoy bowling on the sport patterns and though I naturally average much less it seems to be that much more fun.

Agreed, I love how flat patterns make you work for it.

We have had 2 sport leagues going at our center for the past few years. At first,
many were reluctant to sign up. As time went on, more have done so. The center
also makes these patterns available for practice  a few days a week. I am noticing
that more are showing up for practice . It is starting to remind me of the "good old
days" of years past when bowlers devoted more time at honing their games.
It is refreshing to see. I hope it lasts!

Pfft, who wants to work for it? I'm an entitled house bowler! Now give me my scores!

I'm in the same boat as you Xray. I can have some sport shots put out at my house and practice on them. I love doing that as it's a challenge and it makes succeeding feel that much better.

There's maybe 8-10 people at my house that would be willing to do a sport shot league and 3 of those are junior bowlers.

I only live 1 1/2 hours from Vegas, too far to drive every week for a league, but close enough where I'm planning on bowling at least 1 tournament a month now to bowl somewhere different on different shots
