It's all about entry angle.

A couple of things I've discovered while bowling this summer is:

1. You seem to get tremendous pin action when you match your rev rate to your speed, comparably. That is...don't throw the ball too fast or too slow, but just right according to the amount of revs you put on the ball.

2. Also, varying your axis tilt to suit the volume of oil on the lanes, changes your pin carry and pin action, greatly.

High speed and high rev rates don't equal better carry. Plain and Simple

It's all about getting your ball into a roll just before it hits the pocket, without rolling out.

I heartily agree with Charlest! As a med revs with med speed I use the ball that scrubs off BOTH revs and speed resulting in ROLL into the pocket. People ask me how I can get better than average breaks with pin carry, I equate that to ROLL. Too much ROLL is terrible for carry, I mean UGLY leaves.  I don't leave many 10's, but more than my share of 7's.(I AM A RIGHTY) I do carry high hits better than average, THAT I don't understand at all. Maybe Charlest can explain that to me. THIS IS MY 10 CENTS, don

Revs equal hook/movement, forward roll equals power.

Why are you so obsessed over what other people are doing?  Find your own game.  Power players are born, not made.  Only one out of a hundred and can learn and apply the physical tools for a release that puts a ton of revs on the ball.  What you seem to be missing or ignoring is the fact that almost every tour player comes on tour with the big boomer.  Then they learn that they need tone it down and become more consistent in order to make a living.  The two greatest of all time are Earl Anthony and Walter Ray.  Do or did they throw a lot of revs?  Parker Bohn III, Petraglia, Aulby, did they throw a lot of revs?  Marshall Holman, Norm Duke, Brian Voss, Danny Wiseman, Pete Weber, did they throw a lot of revs.  NO!

Take any modern day cranker and look at the number of titles they have won and then look at the problems they are having winning CONSISTENTLY or the health problems they are having. Couch blows a knee, Jones can't win anymore, Rash is inconsistent as hell, Fagan looks lost on the lanes every time he bowls, the list goes on and on.  They look good for a season or so but cannot SUSTAIN it.

Remember what Randy Pedersen says, "Chicks dig the trip four".  Doesn't matter how you get there, just trip it out.  You'll do it more consistently as a "tweener" or "stroker".

Get the ball to slow down and be at the right angle.  The ball has to get out of the skidding and hooking phase and into a roll.

Roll without rolling out

I ignored that just this week and it wasn't pretty.

I was too busy watching my score then what the ball was doing THRU the deck. Used too strong a ball and left lots of 10's and 7's... even a 7 - 9!

Self-knowledge will help a ton here. I got as much from that as I got from coaching and equipment changes this year. Once I stopped trying to loop the ball so much and concentrated on leverage at the point of release (which cascaded down to rev/speed/roll/angle/etc.), I found a way to turn up my speed and revs, and increase my carry, while cutting down on the total number of boards covered. And I'm still in the tweener category (if that).

The ball needs to be rolling at the pocket and not hooking at the pocket to maximize pin carry.
