Short Pin Layout Candidates
« on: September 15, 2017, 09:02:43 AM »
What balls are best to use a shorter oin to PAP layout on? I want something that doesn't force me to throw the ball too hard on some of the shorter medium patterns. I've had success with a Ride for this purpose, so I was thinking a Match/Match Up would fit the bill along with a surface change. Was thinking about a Dare Devil Trick, but I'm worried it might be too strong for that. I'm about 18 on the monitor and nearly 570 rpm. Thoughts?

Urethane?  That Hot Cell looks to be good for 2handers on short to medium oil.  With that rev rate might even need to ball down to a Pitch Black for short oil.

I've thought about doing a 1 inch pin to pap on a Boost Solid, but haven't yet. The tall core, laying down in a stable position is pretty sweet.

I get it, but I want a reactive option for when urethane is not the way to go.

That is an option I'm considering. Is there something particular about taller cores working better with short pin layouts?

Well only super weak reactive I have is my Blue Hammer (remake, its not real urethane) and it does great as spare ball duties as well but I am a one hander with limited hand.  The other weaker reactives I see recommended on here are the Alley Cat, the Rhino, Fanatic BTU pearl and the Tropical Storm.  The Hammer Arson Low Flare is beloved by many also but that ball is expensive NIB these days.

Taller cores will roll much more true than a different shape because you're basically taking a paper towel roll and almost rolling it like that.

I'm not explaining this right lol.

The Lane 1 diamond cores come to mind.  They do have some good dry balls like the Dart, Bullet and the Chainsaw balls but don't remember those having tall diamond cores.

You have to look at the shape of the core. The Diamond shape worked well with laying the core down. I had a Silver Diamond that had a 2 inch pin to pap, and the thing was a dynamo on everything!

Doom you got that right on laying the core down on the silver diamond. That pearl rolled so awesome.  Put the cg in my palm and laid her over with the pin at 3:00. What a sweet rolling ball. It was a reaction that i cant come close to duplicating today.

I'm giving serious thought to doing this with my Orange/Yellow Boost Solid. I've really struggled with its violent reaction downlane and have tried several adjustments but I still have little confidence in it. A one inch P2P layout might be worth checking out.
