Vise Rapid Cure Ball Plug
« on: October 27, 2012, 10:26:12 PM »
Has anyone had any successes with this product? We just got it this week and after using it, we are not all that impressed. As far as the product having a rapid curing time, it is true to form. The plug does harden very hard, much different than the other products that we have used in the past like Donkee quickplug, which was still spongy, which is where we think part of the problem is.

The biggest dislike has been once the plug is cut down and sanded, the plug still sits up just a bit from the ball surface even when it has gone through a course of sanding, screen-180-360-500-1000-2000-4000. Also, the hardened color of the plug is light around the edges of all of the plugged holes.

We do a lot of plug work through our pro shop and we have tried some different avenues to see if we can be satisfied with the plug. We have let the plug sit for a couple hours before cut and sanded, we have let it set once the plug has set and it has been cut down prior to sanding to see if it still is rising. We have let stuff harden and sit over night, then cutting down and sanding.

Today I even took a full plugged ball that needed to be resurfaced and sanded with screen, then ran it through our Storm Surface Factory 4 times at 360, 4 times at 500, 3 times at 1000, 3 times at 2000, then polished the ball. The surface of the plug was still raised from the ball surface.

If I am drilling back into the same general region, I can scrape the plug down to get close to the ball surface, or even drill back into the same holes. But if I am changing a layout and am shifting what was there, The plug is going to more than likely be near the ball track. I do not think that our customer is going to like the feel of what they are going to be getting.

Sorry for the long post, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this same issue or if they are experiencing successes with it.

Yes, there were still air bubbles. The plug gets really warm and starts to thicken before you pour it in the holes. We poured the plug along the stir stick when pouring into the holes to eliminate any bubbles like you would with regular plug.

While I have not experienced the raised nature of then plug as has been mentioned but what I have seen is that the plug has a plastic-like feel as opposed to say Powerhouse Everclear or TechLine HD.

It does color better than other quick plugs like Wizard however....

I agree with that Doug, the plug does take color very well. It does tend to feel a little plastic feeling when you drill back into it.
