Homemade 20 ball rack, $9.56
« on: March 03, 2007, 10:50:55 PM »
I put together a 20 ball rack for under $10. If anybody wants a picture and a brief description PM me. Material used was 1 2"x6", and 4 2"x3", both 8 foot lenghts.

sand it down, and add some stain and poly, and it'll still be under $20.

Actually I was thinking of covering the rails with some thin carpet or fuzzy material like heavy felt.

Eric, ever try using 1.50-1.75" wooden dowels that would glue into the side supports instead of the 2x3's?

I'm sure that would work too, or wood hand rail. I tried to do it as cheap as possible. 2"x3" by 8' cost less then $2 each. I have another plan for 12 ball rack that I made along time ago. It looks alot nicer but was a little more complicated to make. I'll try to get photo of that one too.

I'm handy but not crafty, I have an Ebonite ball rack that I put together with a Cherrywood stain and high gloss poly.

All the credit goes to johns811 for this great design.

Here's a rack that I built. Extremely heavy but I think it turned out well. Gets the job done!

Those dowels are nice, but expensive.  I used them on my rack, but my next one will be 2x3 or 2x2.

Good job guys.

I have two 20-ball racks, at a cost of aprox. $13 per rack.

Similar to johns811 design.

I just wanted to give a shout out to johns811.  I built my ball rack last weekend, using the plans provided here and like you said it cost me under $10!  I took less than an hour to make.  I did not realize I had so many balls sitting around until I put them on the rack (18 balls...!). Thanks again for the plans!

This was provided in an earlier reply, but I will repeat it, the link for the plans is here --> http://megamav.fortunecity.com/bowling/html/ballrack.html

The only caveat to the plans is that I put the rails at 12" intervals, not 10" intervals because 10" did not leave enough room to put the balls on the rack!
