Title: Sounds like Ron Hickland getting new job
Post by: Ratt_bowling on February 26, 2015, 05:01:21 PM
Sounds like he resigned at EBI.  Doesn't reveal what he is doing next.  Check his FB.

Lord I hope not. Let him destroy some other company. Just don't come to Brunswick or Global.

All three are gone. Details will undoubtedly leak over time.

Did this all start when Barnes jumped ship?

Maybe he knew something back then? Could be the reason he left as well?

It's our opportunity!  Quit jobs now...move to KY....keep showing up at the front door until they give you a shot!

Seriously, I'm sure all jobs have their pain in the @ss moments, but something like that would be very cool...

They probably eliminated their positions especially if all 3 left!  If the sales aren't there they (no matter how good of standing they are in) unfortunately can't pay em.

Where is that user Balldoctor or Dave81644 to come tell us how awesome these EBI balls are? If Barnes says they're junk (implies without formally saying it) and all three of these guys leave? Mass exodus? Wouldn't be surprised if they went under.

I hope all the gentlemen who are leaving find better avenues to pursue their careers and thank them for the equipment they put out that people have loved.  On the flip side, this is a chance for EBI to bring in new people with new ideas to take their company in a different direction.

I say BowlersMart  (Cliff B) buys Brunswick and hires all 3 to run that ship. Drops mic.

I'm not honestly sure why anyone is finding humour in these guys losing their jobs...I know these guys gave their all to EBI and now no longer are employed
Unless you've been in this situation you really shouldn't comment even make jokes of it

Who is slamming the individuals? I think we are slamming EBI, not the guys who were let go.

Agreed, Ric. They're scapegoats, I think, for a much bigger problem a little higher up the ladder. Just my opinion.

I knew Bugsy casually when he was a proshop guy in his pre-EBI days. He was a class act then, and still is. For anyone interested, check out his post on his Facebook page related to his EBI separation. It says a lot about the man.

I think the layoffs are a big function of the fact that EBI is a union shop. I respect and value union shops, but the resulting higher operating costs and consumer prices/sales numbers probably made it hard for EBI to keep up with the demands of their payroll expenses.

I would take any of those layoff positions for half of what those guys were making.

Rico- I'm sure you remember Hickland gloating (here on BR) about the Track/Columbia 300 acquisition just a few years ago and how it all went down. I remember many folks here that were disappointed with Hickland's cockiness and how Phil and other Track loyalists were treated. Cardinale was fired if I remember correctly. Remember the "Phoenix?" I know Phil does. I was determined to never support Ebonite after that. What goes around...

The Phoenix is the one ball I've always wanted. Maybe someday in the future I'll be able to find a new one and have the money to buy it

I use to be the same way. That it wa a great looking ball.

Was a big Track fan until they were bought by Ebonite. Didn't like how things went after that.

That was the last Track ball I bought.  Curious, what would it be worth today?

I'm not seeing this as such a bad thing. Him losing his job is bad, but this could be the chance to see what he can produce under another umbrella or maybe get with other like minded individuals and start something new without some things at EBI that may have been holding him back.

It's always bad when someone loses there job though, especially when they are doing something that they love.

Sad hear!  Whenever I saw any of those guys on video they looked like they just loved what they did.

I can think of many impressive balls out of most of the lines that just rolled great.

If people aren't buying it.....well that's a problem that has to be remedied.  Profits allow for duds.  No profits means no mistakes possible!

Regards,

Luckylefty

I dont think they made duds but the market didn't react accordingly to their releases...and I feel like their world wide sales are bit as good as other brands...

I think their product lacked something that the others company had. Yea they're all bowling balls, but theres a reason why some preferred one company to another. Overseas I think they did better, they have a lot of people especially in korea who used ebonite for the longest time. Guess its just different

I think Hammer was the only brand under the umbrella that was keeping bowlers attention, followed by Columbia 300. Each brand had it's upside and their downside and sales reflect that.

In today's market, every ball rolls well. So your marketing is everything.

I wanted a Phoenix too. After I stopped throwing Ebonite, I started throwing Track. Once EBI bought them, I lost interest.

I wanted a phoenix too.  The pro shop had one and I was like 14-15....by the time I saved up, they were gone.
