Speaking of thumb hole tape
« on: November 04, 2018, 08:45:33 AM »
I didn't want to jack the topic below so I'll start this one. I'm looking for some thumb tape that has a little better grip and last longer then the usual white tape all the shops around here seem to only carry. something grippy and thin and lasts longer then a game,Thanks!
The harder I try the harder they fall

Have you tried real bowlers tape? The silver stuff is great. It's not as abrasive as the white to start, but it lasts for longer.

I've been using this for over a year and love it. I'm nearly through the 500 piece roll...

Use to be real good. They changed it and bleeds thru like other white tapes.

Thinness/thickness:
White tape is more grippy, the rougher it is. The rougher it is, the higher the tiny mounds are going to be. It's like abrasive pads and sandpaper, the rougher it is, the thicker it is.
So you normally are not going to find very grippy white thumb hole tape to be thin.
One of the grippiest I know of, Alligator tape, is one of the thickest.

Many of the manufacturers do make a rougher & thicker white tape version of their stock tape. But they are all ticker, not thin like black tapes.

Lasting more than one game:
I have never had any thumb hole tape last less than a full 3 game set. Every one does. (Tape you put on your thumb may not last a long time.)
So, I suspect either your thumb hole is not clean when you put the tape inside it, or you're not putting the whole piece about 1/4" below the level of the bevel. All these tapes stick fairly well.  Maybe you're rolling a corner of the tape (Almost all precut thumb tapes come with the top portion rounded, to help prevent such rolling.

Genesis Sync White is my go to at the moment. I’m really liking it as others I’ve tried has been too much with one piece. I can actually go with 3 pieces of Genesis Sync White and get out the ball cleanly.

Sorry I meant the grip feel of the thumb not how long it sticks to the thumbhole. I'm honestly considering rosin.

Depending on how dry your skin is, I'd advise it. Heck, I've used white tape in the back, rosin AND blown in the hole.

I've been using black "Vise TA-2d" of late. It's a rubberized crisscross pattern and works wonders for me. Also have white "The Bowlers Tape" but been using the vise tape of late. It's (TBT) my, in the bag for back up and for others who might ask for tape.  :)

Another +1 for Real Bowlers Tape, the silver stuff. It's by far the best on the market, I keep 500 piece rolls around and the local shop now stocks it because of the bleed through of the adhesive on the other textured/white tapes on the market.

In my mind you want 'grip' on the thumb pad /front of the thumb. The back is for fitting/sizing/snugness. For the front/grip I suggest a heavy thick like Real Bowlers Tape or the Ed Thomas Thin Grip. Heavy texture but fast release and NOT sticky like all the others.
