South Point Plaza & Bowling Center...
« on: October 17, 2019, 08:39:19 AM »
For those that are more familiar with the South Point Bowling Center & Plaza, if you were to put down the same oil pattern in both facilities, would your equipment choices change at each facility?

For example, if at the Plaza, throwing on the 2019 Nationals S/D pattern, and having success throwing a Crux Prime, would you use something different at the Bowling Center?

I have a tournament coming up at the Bowling Center and I have never bowled there...only the Plaza.  So I am starting to think about what rocks I want to bring.

I’ve been to both twice. Personal opinion only but I think the Center has more friction. Plaza plays tighter for me.

More friction in the regular center.

In higher friction environments, I like to start with a weaker ball and then go stronger during transition. I've never needed more than 2000 sanded at the regular center and polished balls have come into play much quicker than the plaza.

In your example, the Prime could be good in both because of how smooth the SPEC cover is

The center hooks a lot more. A significant amount in my opinion.

Thank you for the advice.  Until the pattern (should be a challenge level pattern, nothing like a Nationals pattern) gets released, my plan is to bring the following:

Crux Prime
Phaze 2
Marvel Pearl
IQ Tour Solid
Hustle 3TP
Spare Ball

I can only comment on this year.  Reportedly the BJ had the same pattern as dbles and singles at USBC.  I was able to play 5-7 starting with a phase 2, switching to Idol Pearl the last game game at the BJ.   I shot a good 665.

The next day I seemed to have a similar look for 1 game, then transitions became bizarre.   Never cracked 570 in doubles or singles.

Any suggestions?  I've got a Code Black or Astrophysix that I could swap it with, but not sure if they are the quick response you suggested.

Both of those are pretty quick response. How are they laid out?

The Astrophysix has the pin over the ring with the MB about 1 inch to the right of the thumb hole and the Code Black has the pin up & to the right of the ring (1/2 inch from the finger hole) and the MB is straight down (stacked) to the right of the thumb hole.

**UPDATE**

The pattern was finally released.  It is 41 feet, has a high volume in the middle, and opinions say it will hang if you get it outside.  With us only having 6 bowlers per pair and only bowling 4 games, I don't expect to see much transition...team is comprised of 5 right-handers and 1 lefty (I'm a righty).

The tournament is sponsored by Roto Grip, so they sell 2 balls at a discounted rate.  This year they are selling the Halo Vision and Idol Pro.  I know I am getting the Halo Vision, but I am also considering the Idol Pro even though I already have one.

With the pattern and ball specials now known, I have made some tweaks to my arsenal:

Crux Prime
Halo Vision
Phaze 2
Code Black
IQ Tour  (if I buy the Idol Pro, I will leave the IQ at home)
Spare Ball

Thoughts? Opinions? Smart remarks?
